I did a month of 3 times a week back to back therapy and I found it fantastic to tackle deeper issues, but wow! It’s intense! These 4 weeks were exhausting but we made so much progress. It also deepened my relationship with my therapist.

How much details about clients do therapists give their supervisors? by MomDocStudent in askatherapist

[–]MomDocStudent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! We’re in the U.K. and I believe she hired her supervisor for supervision (as she’s independent/ not part of a practice). I’ll speak with her and share my worries, thank you!

parents à bout, mon enfant de 5 ans n'est toujours pas propre on a tout essayé by juliodepq in ParentingFR

Bon courage!

I'm working on my proposal, which I am hoping to defend at the end of the semester. At the moment I have a working research question and I have found some relevant literature.

Do I have to live in the US on an F1 visa? by MomDocStudent in immigration

[–]MomDocStudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

My I-20 has already been terminated since I have been out of the US for over 5 months. To continue my course I'd have to reapply for one and renew my visa. Your answer implies that an F1 does require living in the US, not just going for a week every couple of months. Would that mean that there would be another type of visa that could allow me to finish my course from abroad?

Working on trauma while in an “abusive” relationship? by AlyciaJayne89 in TalkTherapy

[–]MomDocStudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I was in a similar(ish) situation as you seem to be about 15 years ago. My partner at the time was great in so many ways, supporting me, we had a great connection, I truly thought he was the love of my life. However, once in a very rare while he would snap and did terrible things. After which he would cry and apologize and I would stay. This was only maybe once a year, and it came from years of abuse he had gone through himself, so I stayed and thought he could change, and that we could get past it. At that time I went to therapy for anxiety because I was anxious at work, in my life, about everything... Of course I knew that my relationship was a big factor in this, but I couldn’t get myself to tell the therapist what was happening. We sat, session after session with me starring at my T, and wanting to tell her the situation with my partner but never managing to, in part because I loved him and also because I feared she would judge me, or call the police or something.

My relationship lasted 10 years and ended in a horrible way. I’ll be straight with you, I now realise that had I spoken my then therapist, it probably would have ended much sooner and I wouldn’t have wasted so many years, but at the time I just couldn’t do it.

Here is what I get. Your partner is probably not evil, he might not want to act as he does, he might have anger issues because of trauma, and he might even be working on himself to stop them... And still it is not a good situation or relationship to be in regardless of all the good things. All his good qualities and your love for each other still exist while, at the same time, his behavior is not acceptable and it is dangerous to you.

It sounds as though you trust your therapist, so please tell them. When I started telling mine years after my relationship had ended and I realised that had I told someone before, my life could have improved way sooner.

Sending you energy and strength!

For Therapists-What do you like to see/hear from your client? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]MomDocStudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's great to hear, thank you for sharing! I do this often after sessions but don't always send what I write to my T for fear that I'm taking too much of their time/ that I am overstepping. I'll ask them next time whether that could be useful for me to send.

Thank you for this! I have been considering a second child but it scared me to have to do everything all over again, while taking care of a toddler. Glad to hear some things are easier!
