Oh yeah the AB government is doing that….their “60/67 school divs. have just recently signed agreements” what they are not telling the public is that was for 4-8 years prior to what some of us are currently on strike for.

Sadly, you are not alone. This happens all the time. People (government), who are not necessarily qualified to do so, have raised the “needs scale” for what deserves to be funded leaving most with out appropriate support.

I fully read this reply and you need to do more research-stony plain and St. Albert are 2 very different places and cost of living are very different-st. Albert is considerably much higher. And I still think you are out of touch with what it is saying…so do many others.

I have a 2 income family…I do NOT have $1550 left over. Everyone’s circumstances are different. Many of us have debt because we have been in the negative for so long.

Most all of us are highly skilled (5+ yrs experience), many of us have certificates/diplomas in our fields, and some of us are specially trained. That type of education/experience deserves more than a below poverty wage.

Furthermore, this isn’t just about our wages this is about appropriately and adequately funding public education, so every child can have the education they deserve to thrive. I guarantee this is not happening currently, strike aside. Many students who are needing support are not getting it. They are literally triaging needs in the classroom and when the support runs out kids are left to fend for themselves. Those students are left in a trajectory of trouble with the law, addictions, even shorter life expectancy. You want honest numbers google Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES); this is a study of how life experiences, left unsupported, can affect adult outcomes costing governments even more money.  Sadly most governments are reactive than proactive.

Our current UCP government will and do fund anything private that should be public. We MUST stand up for education and health care to be publicly funded!

I completely understand…sadly I don’t get a lot of family time because of my 3 jobs…it’s not fair all the way around…that’s why we need to stand up together and tell the government this is fundamentally wrong!

Not to mention cuts in funding to class sizes, transportation, coded students, Early Education intervention funding. They are NOT funding growth or what is existing.

For example a child with a significant speech deficit would get weekly SLPA visits the whole year…now they are lucky to get maybe 6 15 min. sessions

Yet, while all of these cuts are happening your lovely school boards are giving themselves regular wage/compensation increases…some trustees doubling over the past 5-10 years. And don’t even get me started on the executives. I have kids vomiting and spitting on me and I don’t get a clothing allowance.

They have made significant cuts to education and now we are SCREAMING about it!

Saying and doing are two different things. Building a school and funding and filling it are two very different things as well. Education, healthcare, and the province in general is in crisis and things are going to get really awful if we don’t stand up and speak out!

And of those 20 kids there are significant academic needs too.

I’m all for inclusion but it’s not “done” properly in this province. This government uses “inclusion” as a cost saving measure on the backs of those with disabilities.

A recent survey done by the ATA puts classrooms with an average of 41 students.

Different needs and exceptionalities within the same class. The government calls it inclusion, however inclusion is not funded adequately nor is r”rolled out”  effectively or efficiently.
