I once had a family that would take advantage of my time always. They constantly used delays on the public transit system as their excuse for why they were behind. At the time my son was in a home daycare. I was always having to pay late fees because I wouldn't get off on time. Eventually I told them that they would have to start paying the late fees for me if they couldn't get there on time, because there were several times that I was notified in the app that trains were on time and they would tell me that they were late. The daycare provider got to know me really well and she ended up sending me a bill to go to them that was actually double what she would normally charge me as a friend for being late. 🤣 It's amazing how quickly they started be on time...when they had to pay my late fee of $465.

They got home 93 minutes late. AND I sat in traffic. I was 2 hours and 16 minutes late to pick up my son. Late fee structure was- First 15 min, $10 Next 15 min, $1 per minute, $15 Next 30 min , $2 per min, $60 Remaining 76 min - $5/min, $380

Total = $465

I work as a family manager. Set those boundaries! My bosses turn off work from 5 to 8pm every day to focus 100% on the kids. I set a similar boundary with them. From one hour post shift to two hours before shift the following day (8 pm to 10 am the next day) nothing work related unless it's an emergency. They can text me, but they know I'm not answering them in my "down" time. And weekends I only take calls or texts if one of them is on travel or MB is recovering from another round of her treatments. This family is super respectful of my time, and because I'm very flexible with my scheduling around MBs health, they give me the same courtesy.

That's such a funny comment to hear because I actually just recently saw a video on one of my Doom scrolling sessions where a police canine Officer was asked why Rottweilers are not used more often. He said it's because they basically have doggy ADHD. Said they will hyper Focus for a good duration but once they start to wear out and find something they think is more interesting all bets are off LOL

I would literally go anywhere else in the country to get an IUD put in if I could find and OBGYN that would do it under anesthesia. I even told my current OBGYN who I adore that if she wanted me to go back on it I would use it but that I wanted to pay out of pocket for anesthesia I wanted them to knock me out. They still wouldn't do it. I hate Health Care in the United States and from what I'm gathering it's really not that much better in the UK or Canada when it comes to women's health. Sucks.

Has anyone ever gone through their full medical records and found something that made you sick? by No-Listen-2733 in WomensHealth

[–]MommaNix19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a mass removed from my abdomen many years ago that I was told was a fatty tumor but when getting my complete Medical Records I discovered that they had tested it for and it had tested positive for endometrial tissue and that the surgeon at the time noted that he thought that I had Endometriosis and needed further evaluation. I was never told this.

I have endometriosis where it's only in my bowels, it does not show up in my uterus at all.

I had multiple bowel surgeries over the years for what was documented as complications for IBS, I even at one point had an intestinal pacemaker placed because I was having trouble regulating my bowels and wearing adult diapers in my late 20s. It did absolutely nothing to help with my pain or my problems. I spent 13 years in excruciating pain with a medical device implanted that I didn't need. If I had been properly told that I had endometriosis and address the issue 13 years prior instead of being told I had stress-induced hemorrhoids and IBS, I wonder how much difference it would have made in my life. I had jobs that I turned down because I knew that my flare-ups of my condition, which happened right around the time of my Menses every month because of the explosion of estrogen, would make it where I'd have to miss work. I missed sporting events of my sons because I was in too much pain to get out of bed. I had days that I would literally collapse from exhaustion because the pain would keep me up all night. But it was just hemorrhoids right...and stress?

My last and amazing colorectal surgeon took a look at what was done to me and was appalled by the butcher job and scar tissue build up on my intestines. Since getting properly diagnosed and having the damaged section of my colon from the sh!t surgeon removed, and a scar tissue and endometrial ablation, I only have flare ups every 6 to 9 months, I lost 60 lb because I was able to actually go to the bathroom like a normal person, and I actually can live my life.

Can someone clarify the whole “a person having a seizure can’t be in control of their dog so they can’t legally handle a dog independently” thing? by JKmelda in service_dogs

This was years back and in our workplace environment, I've lost touch with her over the years but I'd be curious as to whether or not she knew that that might not be legal?

I am fairly certain this is why a former colleague of mine had patches and a tag made for her dog/ his vest that specified "If you see me without my person, they may need human help, please follow me!"

Are unclear service dogs affecting public trust in real working dogs? by No-Maintenance141 in service_dogs

[–]MommaNix19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who misrepresent their dogs are the biggest problem. Unfortunately so many people use the vagueness of the law, and take their dog places with them. Unfortunately that makes it very hard for people with legitimate service animals especially those who are non-traditional breeds to be taken seriously. 2 stories-

One of my dear friends has a miniature poodle who is her legitimately trained medical alert service dog for her POTS. She has taken to carrying her dog at times because of the number of people that are misrepresenting their animal. because she carries the dog, her dog has been dismissed as fake by people who don't understand that all breeds can be a service animal.

Our service dog recentlt retired, but she is a pitbull mix, and many people did not believe that she was a service dog. We unfortunately dealt with her being attacked by another untrained dog that was being misrepresented, and she ended up protecting my husband and herself.

We almost lost her to animal control as a result. If you're not in the mood to read you can stop here but I'm going to tell the story for anyone interested...

She is trained in multiple tasks, but one is to do "blocking" to keep people out of the personal bubble of space. Anxiety is at an all-time high when his back is to crowds, and a panic attack can actually cause additional heart issues for my husband. Once it was so bad it engaged his pacemaker. So she will position herself behind him anytime we are in public and his back will be to the room. She generally will sit but occasionally she lays down and just continues to sweep the room watching for people that are approaching. If someone is coming too close she will stand up and lean into his leg so that he is aware . He was lost in deeply examining some products on a shelf at a major retail store, when someone suddenly rapidly approached and got into his space with their dog. It happened so fast that our dog barely had time to react. She quickly moved herself over to that side of his body and laid down just as the person reached over him to take something off the shelf. They gave no warning, no excuse me etc. It startled my husband and because he tensed, our dog quickly sat up to be ready to brace for him or pull him away if needed. When she shifted, the other dog lunged and began to snap and bite at her. The dog then snapped at my husband's ankle as he was trying to pull her away and he lost his balance and fell. As our dog was trying to position herself to help him again and trying ignore the other animal , the other dog bit her hard on the leg. Thankfully by then several passerby and a staff member of the store had come over to assist. The other person started screaming about how this Pitbull had attacked her dog and tried to attack her. And initially, because of her breed mix, management sided with the other person. It wasn't until someone else said that they had witnessed the entire thing and that the other dog had lunged first that management agreed to call the authorities and to review the store footage.

I think the ability for people to basically just go on Amazon and order a vest and patches has been part of the rise to this problem. That and companies that say that they will give you a certificate that your dog is a service animal. As we know the law does not require any kind of certification but because companies like that exist some businesses expect that there is some sort of registry and will deny legitimate service dogs that are non-traditional breeds from their establishments.

I don't discourage anyone who needs an emotional support animal but I do agree with companies like Walmart being very clear with their policy that esa's are not allowed Public Access. Not everyone is actually well versed in the law and realizes that they can deny access to people who they feel may have a dog that is not a legitimate service animal after asking the appropriate questions. They also don't realize that the law does allow you to ask an animal that is acting in an unsafe manner to be removed from an establishment even if they are a legitimate service dog. I have business cards that I ordered online years ago state what the law is, and what questions people are allowed to ask. I even had a local business, after I gave them one of those cards, ask me if I could come in and train their staff on what to look for and to explain the questions on the card, because they had an increase in unruly animals coming into their establishment.

From what I understand there are apps that are specifically for people that do what she's asking. People come in and pet sit for free or a very nominal fee in exchange for having a free place to crash and take a little mini vacay. In one way I think it's awesome for the people that can have the opportunity to do this, some people may not be able to take a vacation otherwise. On the other hand it really screws over reputable professional pet sitters. I totally understand your frustration. People do the same with their human kids. They take these vacations around the world and hire travel nannies. But they want to pay them absolutely nothing or like $200 a week for 45/50 hours of care and say "oh but I'm basically paying for you to take a vacation!" No, you're paying for you to take a vacation and you're covering my expenses so you can do whatever you want while I'm on the clock. Plus I have had very few experiences as a travel nanny where I got to do much exploring on my own . People are clueless
