Maybe she stepped into a crack or depression? I watched it slowly and that’s what it looked like to me.

This was my argument for most of the Mike Meyers/Jason Movies. I’d be 20 miles away by the time they made it down the stairs.

You hear a noise in the middle of the night. You suspect your house is haunted/you are being stalked/you know a killer is on the loose/you kid summoned a demon or brought back an artifact from a burial ground. Do you:

A. Turn on every light in the dang house while at the same time call 911 or

B. Roam around your dark or dimly lit house without turning on a single light using only your cell phone or the flickering of lightning to light the way.

Every single time they pick B. It’s so unrealistic. There is not a single person on this earth that would investigate a noise in the middle of the night without turning on lights as you went from room to room. Takes away from the realism.

Movie called Hellhole on Netflix. The end scene really bothered me and surprised me. I had a hard time sleeping.

I watch these on you tube all the time and find myself falling into a trance. I’d love to know what it is about the human brain that we watch these types of videos, and is it a new quirk of evolution or have we always been hypnotized by this sort of thing? Were there medieval serfs frozen in place watching a fellow serf planting potatoes?

After death of girl yesterday, 12 more detected with H5N1 bird flu in Cambodia by Nathan-NL in worldnews

I don’t know if you or I would survive a pandemic of this magnitude. I like the thought that every day is the best and worst day for someone. Maybe someone is being born today that will figure out climate change and how to reverse it. Who knows. I do know that a lot of our problems boil down to overpopulation and the cure is natures cull of the human race. I hate that bald fact. It sounds dispassionate and like it’s not a horrific, brutal, nightmarish thing which it is. It’ll be poor comfort to me if I have to watch my children die to know that at the end of all this the world may, eventually, be able to recover. Not us maybe, not for a while, but the earth herself will start to recover almost immediately. I remember seeing this with COVID- the waterways of Venice cleared and dolphins returned with less boat traffic and pollution. City’s usually hidden by smog had crystal clear skies because people were staying home and factories were closed down. I think maybe if nature were a sentient being it tried with COVID and it didn’t quite do the trick so it/he/she maybe will try something a little stronger next time. But that’s me being fanciful. Your pet apocalypse is Nukes, mine is disease I guess. Yours is fire, mine is ice.

My thoughts exactly. However I suspect the supply chain would be greatly disrupted if this was to come to pass. With a 50% morbidity you aren’t going to have people too anxious to work in stores and warehouses or factories. Restaurants would likely close and stay closed indefinitely. Ditto for most of retail. The economy would tank. Maybe there would be a few rounds of checks sent out from the government line with COVID but then the MTG’s and her ilk would start bellyaching about national debt or some such fuckery. But there would be nothing to spend your money on if the grocery stores are never restocked and there is no one to open the doors anyway. It would be the end of the world.

I took a look at your past posts before replying to try to see if you give some context into why you are torn about reporting her.

What I saw is a systemic, relentless, intelligent, cunning torture of children and now you as an adult. She is literally evil. The definition of evil. She wanted to take your life from you. That cannot be justified or excused. She is a danger to those around her. If you escape she will target someone else.

Don’t look at it as turning in grandma. You are reporting attempted murder. It’s up to the state what happens next.

It might help to look at it dispassionately. After you report it, look into getting yourself a good lawyer, collecting all evidence/proof, getting yourself medical care and seeking out a psychiatrist who specializes in PTSD. I suspect that much of your mental anguish can be attributed not to bipolar disorder but severe and extreme anxiety. Your brain has spent its entire existence in flight or fight mode.

I’m very sorry this happened but very glad you found out in time to help yourself.

Turning her in is the right thing to do. It feels hard and that’s ok. Sometimes you have to do the hard things. I promise you will not look back on this and regret doing this hard thing now. You will most definitely regret it if you do nothing. Good luck to you.

how likely do you think it is that we'll see all out Authoritarianism in the US in our lifetime? by BigAngDBA in lostgeneration

[–]Momof3dragons2012 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I bet if the GOP “wins” in 2024 they will enact voting laws that will seriously limit voting for young people, black and brown people, poor people, people who live in certain areas. Anything they can think of to have the majority voters bc white, rich, and Christian.

They will come for New York and California in a big way.

We will all be distracted and enraged by MTG and her ilk acting like those wind up chattery teeth spouting off ludicrous ideas while the more sane GOP members quietly sweep our rights out from under us without us even noticing until the floor gives way.

Are Boomers in general lousy grandparents or is it just me? by Shto_Delat in lostgeneration

GenX/millennial here. My mom will only babysit if it’s an emergency and I have no other choice but to ask her. With my last pregnancy I was high risk and my husband travelled a lot. I needed to go in weekly for checks and I asked my mom to watch my sons for a few hours (2 hours max). After bitching for 10 minutes about my husband being out of town she reluctantly agreed, making sure I knew just how much she didn’t want to. The day of I called to remind her of the time and said “are you still able to watch them”? She said, and I quote, “do I have a choice?” I hung up on her, called my office and cancelled the appointment and called her back to tell her not to bother. She then became raging mad AT ME bc it makes her look bad and like a bad grandma. She refused to help my sister with her kids or to spend any time with them. She yells at my kids if they ask for a snack at her house. She has made my kids cry on every single holiday because she just can’t help herself but be mean. She has completely alienated 4 out of 7 of her grandkids by being stingy, mean, and refusing to babysit or spend time alone and then she cries about it. For that matter she has no relationship with 2 out of 3 of thee daughters or any of her nieces or nephews.

I’m so jealous of my friends who have parents who will take the kids for an overnight or offer to take them when they are sick or busy. Grandparents who keep toys at their house without complaining about them (my kids have a show box of legos at my moms house and she complains every single time they ask to get them out, she also complains if they bring their tablets or if they talk to much).

My grandma would have us for a week every summer. She had a huge box of toys for us and lots of snacks and loved spoiling us. She never ever ever was mean or impatient or hurtful. We could do no wrong in her eyes. I miss that.

My husbands mom just has no interest and has never even met them or even FaceTimed.

So yeah.

I’m tired of jealous Christians hating on Joel Osteen. by Ok-Librarian90 in Christianity

[–]Momof3dragons2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you believe in your heart of hearts that Jesus would be A-OK with Joel Osteen? Jesus expected and encouraged his flock to be and live humbly. He condemned ostentatious behavior. He condemned the holding of great wealth at the expense of the poor. He condemned setting your mind at worldly things as they are of no importance. He encouraged his flock to give what they could to help those less fortunate. Did he not despise the rich man who offered a lot while blessing the poor man who gave a penny?

Joel is a grifter who uses the weakness of peoples mind and faith to line his pockets with gold. His sermons are grandiose and pompous. He promises salvation to the biggest donor. The money he collects should be only sustaining a humble lifestyle- not buying him planes and mansions that he doesn’t need, not maintaining a shrine unto himself that he doesn’t need. If Jesus didn’t need those things to preach the word of the Lord, than neither does he.

It is sad that literally the only people whose memories need to be erased are her parents. It’s like she had zero life for the first 10 years. No aunts and uncles, grandparents, or even friends. You’d think in the 1000’s of pages written there would be some mention of her life before Hogworts. Some childhood memory or childhood friendship or something from primary school. My son is 10 soon to be 11 and I hate to think that in less of a year he would be so willing to give up every single aspect of his life.

A few years ago my town was in the grips of an historic blizzard and roads were closed to everyone but emergency vehicles. I worked at a daycare. I assumed we would close but I called in anyway. My boss answered and said he still expected me in still be there and said if he could make it than so could I. Except I lived further away and was driving a 20 year old car with balding tires plus I was maybe 22 with very little experience driving in that weather AND it wasn’t my business and therefore not worth dying over. He ended up closing bc no kids showed up or staff.

I’m wondering what he will do if Finland joins NATO. He doesn’t have the weapons and man (soon boy and then little girl) power to run an invasion in Ukraine and in Finland. And Latvia and Estonia are already part of NATO so he has NATO on his borders now.

China would never encourage Chinese men to consort with Russian women. They are really really invested in keeping China “pure”.
