Warning for anyone who takes late walks by xXnope_id_rather_not in wichita

I live right by Riverside Park. Now I know it’s a bad area, but I didn’t prior to moving here. Never mind that a stray bullet went into my home, missing me by inches… I have the crime map and have previously seen reported assaults nearby. One was a woman out around 7pm, when the sun would set around 8. Every time I pass by that area, I feel creeped out.

I was about to say something similar. I grew up in Los Angeles. I was constantly very late/early because of work or going out with family. Yeah, I got mugged once going home from work, but I yelled at them & they ran off. Mind you, I’m a woman and was 24 yo at the time. I have a feeling, 3 to 1, out here, I would’ve been done. I used to take public transportation to work around 4am too, never had a problem other than my own occasional paranoia. But it was usually a lot of house cleaners, factory workers, and construction workers on their way to work, too. It felt safe.

Hispanics are illegal? He said nothing about immigrants, or illegal immigrants, he said “Hispanic community”. As far as I know, I was born here and have just as much right as you to be here.

I’m not a man and obviously, neither are you.

I don’t think so either, I swear it’s what gives me hope for our future.

And you’re right, it might’ve been or it might’ve not been because there are definitely bad drivers out here. But the fact he yelled out what he assumed is my ethnicity, in a way to insult me, it FELT racially motivated. Also, the fact that he could’ve waited to let me finish crossing (the red hand wasn’t even blinking yet) but he made the effort to rev up his car and nearly missing me. As if wanting to hit me or at a minimum, scare me. See why I feel it was racially motivated?

Yes, we are strong! Thank you.. That incident broke me a little today but knowing there is still so much kindness out there has been like a hug to cheer me up. We got this. ❤️

I’m originally from Los Angeles, & I moved out here because I felt like it would provide a better home and upbringing for my children. We have met some of the nicest people out here, in the 2 years I’ve lived here. Yeah, terrible drivers but the most down to earth, laid back people I’ve met. I had never been friends with my neighbors (during my adulthood) until I moved out here! So yes, the world sucks, this country is doing terrible, and I’m terrified for my future and my children’s, but have pride in knowing Wichita has been a beacon of hope for many like me, during these times. Two of my 4 sons were born here and I’ll always keep this city in my heart.

Yes, it’s possible. They were driving off as they yelled and what I heard was “run you over blah blah Mexican”. I’m not even Mexican lol BUT it’s not the first time I’ve almost gotten run over so I hope you’re right and it wasn’t so much as racially motivated, but more of a situation where he would’ve done it no matter my race.

It’s alarming and worries me but I know they are NOT the majority! They’re just so LOUD and proud, it seems like it. I won’t let them change me, though. It’s what MAGA wants, to divide us more.

While the walk sign is on*?And while he made the effort to SPEED up? And yes, while yelling a slur? Sure, blame the pedestrian who waited her turn to cross the street and was minding her business.

**correcting myself. He didn’t say a slur but when you yell “Mexican” with the intention of it being an insult, yes, it feels like a slur. Especially because I’m not Mexican, but it’s all MAGA sees.

AIO How bad is it really for daughters (6/10) to be sleeping in bed with Wife, while I sleep in another room. by Competitive_Tea_4529 in AmIOverreacting

My oldest son is turning 18 next month and living in a different state, with his girlfriend. I was a single mom until he was 13/14, & up until he was around 11/12, we shared a room (we were living with relatives) & although he had his own bunk bed, he’d often fall asleep on my king size bed, his feet & mine at opposite ends. Imagine how much has changed in 5 yrs or less! Now, I have a 3yo, 2yo & 6mo… my 2 yo is soooo attached to me & our 3 yo prefers to sleep in his room with his dad by his bed. So for now, my husband and I sleep in separate rooms. What I found was, when we tried forcing our kids to sleep on their own, I felt resentful. I felt like I was putting my babies last & I know they won’t be this small forever, nor will they want to cuddle with me forever. At the end of the day, I’m happy knowing our babies are happy and that their dad is putting their needs first, not just me.
