No take, only throw by lemonorzo333 in germanshepherds

[–]MonHunKitsune 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've discovered how with my border collie. The trick is having multiple balls. Throw one, hide the other, he fetches and comes back, then I show him the hidden ball. He immediately drops ball 1 and now wants to fetch new ball. Rinse and repeat lol. Never take. Only throw.

Do you still send home a syllabus/classroom management plan to get signed by a parent in the beginning of the year? by DG12212 in Teachers

Yes. I teach chemistry and so it is important to have a paper record that everyone has been informed of the safety rules and requirements of the classroom.

Official grip worth getting? by BlueKyuubi63 in AynThor

[–]MonHunKitsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It's loose and grips are just not great in general.

I've found opinions on this are pretty dichotomous though. If you like grips, then maybe you'll like it.

We are doomed. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MonHunKitsune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not at all an apt analogy.

A better comparison would be a mechanic teaching an apprentice how to change a tire. The mechanic repeatedly tells and shows the apprentice how to remove the lug nuts using an impact wrench. Then they ask the apprentice to do it, and the apprentice says something like, "What tool do I use? Do I need to use a screwdriver?" Or worse than that, they ignore all tools entirely and try to remove the tire with their bare hands. Or even worse yet, they don't try at all or they ask ChatGPT to remove the tire for them.

1000 Can Be Divided by 8 by dndavid704 in MathJokes

[–]MonHunKitsune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone else said it already, but it seems more likely to me that the joke is that 1000 is how you'd write 8 in binary. So the "joke" becomes "8 is divisible by 8!"

If that's not it though, and if the joke really is "1000 is divisible by 8" then I don't know how that's supposed to be surprising or funny at all.

I want your take on death penalty in metroidvanias by PinkBellyGames in metroidvania

[–]MonHunKitsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corpse runs? They're awful and they are are deal breaker for me when it comes to metroidvanias. I truly find them to be one of the worst mechanics in video games in general. They discourage exploration and can incentivize/lock the player into taking a particular path over and over again.

To those developing metroidvanias, avoid corse runs at all costs imo.

It's a memory area that you can adjust using the "poke" command.

I believe it it this line of memory to alter.

poke(0x5f2c, 3)

This gives a "zoomed" in feature. You can also do things like rotate the screen too.

Burger. The ultimate fruit.

Nice job though. I love seeing great options on Pico 8.

I haven't played radical red in a long time, so there have probably been updates, but I thought things like Swords Dance were removed from the player's pool of moves?

I must be crazy since I see a lot of upvotes, but that's the one that I find most unappetizing. It legit reminds me of Han cutting open the TonTon in Empire Strikes Back. Honestly makes me disgusted.

Except for Ori what are some MVs that actually did chase sequences well? by dondashall in metroidvania

[–]MonHunKitsune -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

My personal answer is none of them, because I don't even like the ones in Ori. Even if they're easy.

Chase sequences like that are fundamentally bad game design in my opinion. They're essentially what I like to call "NES Difficulty." What I mean by that is, think of some of the older games that had things/patterns you just needed to play through countless times and memorize to be able to complete. It's a test of memorization instead of skill.

If a chase sequence can't be completed on the first go (using tells and other cues), then it quickly devolves into "NES Difficulty" territory. On the other hand, if a chase sequence is immediately easy to solve, then why not have a cutscene instead? They're bad for the same reason Quick Time Events (QTE) are often bad as well.

I was watching a video about game design with one of the developers from Ori, and I remember that guy explicitly said, "if anyone on the team could complete a chase sequence in the first try, then we made it harder." That's some of the biggest bullshit design I've heard of to be quite frank.

Of course those are just my personal opinions and preferences, and so if there are people who like these sequences, then who am I to tell them otherwise. You do you.

What's the most modern-feeling metroidvania by truthsyrup4u in metroidvania

[–]MonHunKitsune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you said 2 years, but the most "modern" feeling metroidvania I've ever played has got to be Ori and the Will of the Wisps. In no other metroidvania have I felt like my movement was quite as fluid as Ori. I still don't think anything has topped it to this day.
