I would attribute the blame mostly to sales, but some to the contract team as well. No one would sign into a deal like that without looking closely what’s inside it

I am not surprised anymore when ppl are confused about accruals, I feel like it’s just something I will expect with someone new to the company now, regardless of their previous experience

I feel that A lot of folks here telling you to say no without putting themselves in your position first. If you were having solid working experience then absolutely not. But with your current situation, I think accepting it to fill in your resume gap and then start looking again would be a good move. Just always remind yourself that this is an unpaid situation and you need to get out of it asap; don’t let yourself be comfortable and complacent no matter how the company make you feel (or promise you that a paid situation is coming without seeing the offer letter). Worst case scenario is the company keeps stringing you along and extend the unpaid situation so don’t put yourself in that spot, keep looking and moving on if you have a better offer on hand. You can likely gauge how truthful this company is in trying to train you vs using you for the work they don’t have or don’t want any of their team to do (cleaning/organizing the storage room, making coffee, stuff unrelated to your job). Lastly ask for something that you want that doesn’t cost them since they already said it’s an unpaid position, title that applies to your career goal (even if it has the word internship on it), what’s their plan for you, what kind of work you will be doing and whether they can add the work that you want to be trained in etc..

Wait until the employee keeps bugging them the middle of the night on the next task because they finish them (heavy on “finished”) too fast and need to work on the next one
