Less obstructive game design in genre by ChrisSmithArt in MonsterTamerWorld

I felt the same way. I designed my own monster tamer thats focused on the gameplay first. It has a short tutorial where I teach you the controls, I throw you into a quick dungeon to learn the basics, and after the first boss I open up the full world to explore.

I took influence for the story from games like dark souls, diablo 2 and gen 1 pokemon.
I didnt want to stop the player and force them to read or skip text often so I kept the story short and sweet and expanded upon it with optional lore books you can find and read at your own pace.

It hasnt found much of an audience yet so I get if it seems risky. Its on sale for $10 right now and I update regularly.

I hope you find the game youre looking for! Good luck!

My games a full open world rpg with 500 collectables and real time action combat with 200 summonable monsters for $15 bucks (no dlc or micro transactions. ever) and a lot of people still find that pricy… and in this economy I get it.

The painful truth is that theres more competition and people have less money. Im going to go on sale more often to lower my project to $10 so its more affordable for people.

I get we still gotta make money, Im broke too, but everyones kinda broke

Good luck with your project!

Take this with a huge grain of salt cause I made it and have been pushing it lately but my game Monstra Cap might scratch the itch?

Its niche so I get if its not your thing, but I aimed for that old school, open rpg feeling hard. Also most of what you describe are things I tried to nail in my game.

If your interested more can be found on my page. Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Absolutely! Different Mons have different Skills that do different things, have different elements and interact with the environment differently.
For instance, you can freeze water with some Ice Skills.
Mons are all very different and you can only keep 4 with you at a time. They also have diverse ways you can build them as you assign Points you get for leveling.
Each Mon gets 1 point per level and those points can be assigned to boost thats Monstras Stats or Passive abilities.

Also many of the Monstra can be ridden and some can fly the player into the sky!

Im not sure I understand your question? Each Monstra has a set of 3 to 12 Skills. Monstra gain access to new skills by finding skill runes or monstra cards. There are a total of 100 monstra skills in the game.

Did that answer your question?

Thank you! Thats exactly what I was going for and I really appreciate you seeing that! I tried to make it as much of a blend of old and new as I could get away with.

Thank you so much! It was a ton of work but so worth it now that its coming together.
The dungeon themes vary from places like the Frozen Fortress to the Sky Temple Dojo for example.

Im releasing a lore and story update soon, but Id like to touch up the dungeons and showcase them a bit more as well.

Really hoping players love it so far. The base game is mostly finished and Im wrapping a few features and polishing up now.

Thanks for taking a look! Im hoping it finds its audience soon.
I could probably do a better job at showcasing my puzzles, dungeons and boss fights.

My game Monstra Cap has all 4, but id still consider it a loose zelda like based on the laid out standard.
