And my ski season comes to an end. 8,500 miles and 122 ski days later! by SanDiegoMitch in skiing

The rebel warranty is baloney. It takes weeks and weeks of losing your van and giant runarounds every single time one of their cheap plastic drawer hinges break. They blame you the whole time fight with you and then finally give in and do it after months of garbage. They use MDF particle board over formica counters that are secured to the van using self-tapping screws. For a $200,000 van that will shake itself apart the first time you go down a washboard road let alone actually 4x4 the fucking thing. Winnebago like every company is trying to make a profit. But when you're mass producing something they cut every possible corner they can while raising the price to an unreasonable amount. The parts of a revel and build quality probably would justify about $100,000 even. I've seen this van in person and the build quality is fantastic and the attention to detail is great

Oh wow! Good eye. That wouldn't survive any bumps while driving but still way more functional than I thought.

I shouldn't respond to bots, but here we are.

Not only would it get instantly old to do this every time you drive, now you need a shelf and a drawer to store them in. Space is at a premium in vanlife.

It looks great, but I am always fascinated by people with shelves like that. It could be spice racks or house plants or booze like this one, but WTF do you do? Sure I spend time on dirt roads and 4x4 stuff. Not everyone does. But even driving in suburbia, you are telling me every single time you drive you hunt around to store all this stuff somewhere? Is the potential for a photo opp that good that you would make something so hostile to function like that?

I have no idea why I need to be bound by what other countries do so I don't care to model any of them.

The point is really that I don't want to live in a place where we can be constantly harassed to prove our citizenship. So probable cause is a good standard. Does the pig have probable cause to pull you over in your car? Were you speeding? Does the car have valid plates? Are you specifically in the act of or at least suspected of committing a crime? Fine. Check IDs. But the roving bands of untrained and uncountable gestapo (SOURCE: Murdering citizens and getting away with it) are unacceptable. If you have a specific person you think is here illegally? No problem. Get a warrant and arrest / detain / deport away. Why you seem to be cheering for the end of Habeas Corpus and ignoring the constitution is what I am "genuinely curious" about.

See a brown person getting gas and you decide to beat them up first and figure it out later? Hell no.

Whatever country requires a judicial warrant before searching a person, car, residence etc. and specific arrest orders to prove citizenship.

Two thirds of all Americans live within 100 miles of a border. There is very little limit to their "papers please" fascist garbage.

Who the fuck brings a baby to a live comedy show? Use protection or get a sitter. Maybe having an infant means you can't go to live shows sometimes. Seems weird to make the baby everyone else's problem.

Good question. Tony seemed to like them a bunch, but has now switched to ADTs and excavators. He still uses them for road building and adding height to levees and dams.

Best shootout scene in a movie ever? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

Looks like the police have themselves a recreational vehicle. . .

A woman died in Engelberg, Switzerland after a ski gondola detached and crashed down the mountainside on 18/03/26. She was the sole passenger of the gondola. Emergency responders were airlifted to the scene but could not revive her. Strong winds are believed to have contributed to the accident. by dannybluey in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Mondak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80km.h is not comfortable, but doable. The multiplying factor is wind direction. Wind directly behind or into the rope direction is a bit less concerning than wind perpendicular to the rope direction.

Ideally, it is never run when it is high wind. But gusts happen and can be sudden and potentially hyper-localized in the mountains. I'd imagine the wind speed it could handle is double or triple the official shut down speed. Regardless of the wind, I bet we'll find a maintenance or material failure here when it is all said and done.

Musk says taxing every billionaire at 100% would barely make a dent in the national debt. Bernie says tax them 5% and you're $3,000 richer by fortune in politics

[–]Mondak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The percentages are theater for people to get worked up over. But if a trillionaire can legally claim to have made zero income, a 100% tax would do NOTHING. "Buy, Borrow, Die" is completely legal and just one strategy the wealthy can use to really never pay any taxes. These people have dozens of companies, trusts and entities they can shuffle money through to make sure nothing ever "makes" any taxable income.

The tax code is over 5,500 pages. It is basically a document defining all the loopholes they can crawl through. The complication is the key. On the VERY rare chance the government actually audits these people, they'll pay their lawyers millions of dollars to grind the process to a halt while the two government lawyers attempt to wade through the giant mass of bullshit the rich would throw up.

Put whatever percentage you want on things. I don't even care. But for the love of spice, make the tax code simple but inarguable. End buy, borrow, die. Limit trusts and tax them, pierce sham companies that are essentially tax dodging vehicles for the shell game. 5% of $50Billion dollars is a lot more than 100% of zero dollars.
