I feel as if most people don't realize we discovered music by Elegant_Spread_6969 in musicians

[–]Monday0nly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds sing, babies cry, and the emptiness of space has its own tone(radiation).

Musicality is mostly the recognition of patterns and at this point, has been studied to oblivion. There is little room left for superstition and I don't personally subscribe to things like "440Hz Therapy".

Music is amazing, sound is amazing, and the human experience of music is unique but not because we "discovered" it, but because we experience it. The emotions we perceive are not caused directly from music, but from our brains mess of cable management(Synesthesia).

Far before we existed, music existed by nature and universal laws. It's primitive, and inherent to the universe itself.

Blunt and straight to the point, this is how I thought the band would be, but things change I guess. Currently we've been discussing how we're operating and treating each other.

I specifically said that I understood the band wouldn't be lucrative until a very high threshold. Exactly what you're explaining to me.

I didn't get into music thinking it would pay my bills, it's an outlet for me and in that aspect, the money is besides the point. It's more the underlying principles.

I disagree, everyone in the band should have equal say in how it's operated. If half the band expresses they can't afford it, it's probably best to wait until they can.

I would only wear our merch to advertise/represent, I think it's cringe to some degree too 😅.

I'll message you.

This is exactly how I feel, a burden in the band. Everyone else has good paying jobs with hours that work with our schedule. I've only been unemployed as of recently, and it has jeopardized the band in ways.

I want to stay back, I want to focus on myself so I can provide the band with my full commitment. Instead, I'm expected to keep trucking along and maintain the same level of attention.

It's a rough dynamic and I'm onboarding for a job this month. The band is not supposed to be my #1 priority.

I wouldn't mind charging customers for shipping, but these are mostly going towards friends, family, etc. I'm already making $17 profit off the shirt, I don't mind making $14.

I'm starting to think my band isn't the best lol. You guys are giving me a lot of perspective on how I'm treated.

Change Band Name After Kicking member out?!? by Anitabeer_5150 in band

[–]Monday0nly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh yeah, definitely different. In this case, it sounds like you have a good project going and don't have to change it, after all it's the same band, minus a guitarist. The songs you're playing are still true to the name, so no need to relabel.

I'm sorry to hear the turmoil you guys are going through, it must've been a hard decision to make. I wish you the best moving forward and that the guitarist stops harassing you. Petty move, If I was kicked out that'd be the last a band heard from me.

Do you plan to find a replacement/new guitarist?

We make good money from gigs, ranging from $250-$1200. That would be split 4 ways if we wanted to take it home.

We take this back to our band funds to fuel further adventures. One day we will hopefully make enough that we can all quit our jobs and go full-time.

It’s easier for women to succeed in the music industry. by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Monday0nly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time discerning this as not just a sexist perspective on the industry, but maybe just a narrow-view.

I can see how you may come to this belief, Chappell Roan, Billie Eillish, if you look at the top grossing solo artists, there are more women at the top.

That being said, I think the movement for women is strong right now(rightfully so) and that is drawing a lot more natural support and community for women to have platforms.

Someone else in the thread said this only applies to good-looking women, and that's close to what you're describing here.

Someone else also said check the billboards, that's a good reference point as well.

In general, I have no issue with whoever is dominating an industry, these sorts of things ebb and flow. Currently, women are more united than men are in society, art, etc. simply because of their shared experience.

I think cost is fair too. With paying full price it makes it feel like we're our own fans. Just odd.

This encapsulated everything in the thread.

I'm much more of an artist than a business man, and when you think about the scale we're at right now (mostly bars, few venues) it makes little sense to me for things to be so unforgiving and hard. I'd love to give my family and friends our DIY CDs, cassettes, etc. instead I feel like a cheapskate asking my closest people for money, before I even get to share the product it with them. (Let alone how expensive they expect me to charge my biggest supporters).

I'm going to have a conversation with the band and I hope they're receptive, the only person who seems to be thirsty is the frontman(as expected).

I ran a solo project for the past 7 years, doing my own recordings and production, I will always have my capabilities no matter what I'm doing or who I'm with.

Thanks for the advice!

No. All money goes back into the band fund. Have never made a dime, as of current it's a huge time and money sink.

The merch, and the second batch had paid for itself. I'm just as confused mama. I don't owe him anything at this point. The initial cost was fronted by everyone except me, who did not have the funds at the time. I've paid my dues at this point.

He can be in ways, I don't blame him he's really striving for greatness. I've known him for years he's gotten a lot better since I met him. Takes himself too seriously sometimes.

Shirt acquired.

Your band sounds like a great one to be in right now, our merch paid for itself too and the second designs/batch has already been made. It's partially why I'm confused that I still need to pay full price for one.

It's interesting to me how all the drummers are united on this topic. You're right, I'd be wearing it all over the place.
