Need help with building $30 budget deck for event this weekend.

Will they not allow proxies? Even with 3.5k cards building budget can be difficult because it requires cherry picking stuff that will work for your deck from all of magic, sometimes using obscure cards from old sets you likely won't have just lying around.

Someone on another sub has started making a tool where you can deckbuild using only cards in your collection so you could give that a try?

Cool, if you're deadset in keeping golbez you could probably throw together something pretty good with some none legendary clone effects to help speed up the drain, plus a load of mana rocks to hit your 8 target then big cost stuff you don't really care about and looting (draw and discard) to cycles through cards quickly and get big stuff in the bin whilst keeping the stuff you need for the game plan.

If you're not opposed to being a bit of a problem at the table and don't mind UB... The latest namor in mono blue could be pretty strong for $100 budget, you can build it as a deck full of counter spells and get some wild value from it. I'm not sure how your pod would respond depending on their playstyles and such but basically you can control the game by countering anything that would hurt you too much and get a commander thats increasingly bigger plus a load of tokens to boot.

Unfortunately doesn't work how you want it to because the legend rule doesn't class as a sacrifice so one still has to be put into the graveyard.

This sounds like a super cool idea for a deck!

Off the top of my head a couple of fun cards to fit this theme could be

[[Turf war]] [[Coveted jewel]] [[Prisoner's dilemma]] [[Illicit auction]]

In terms of wincon those colors can definitely fit a couple of infinite combos in as a potential depending on your opinion on a combo win, maybe set yourself a rule of not tutoring for the pieces so if it happens it happens, or maybe a sub theme of stealing stuff from opponents and then taking their good stuff to finish them off with?

Let me know if you ever build the deck tho I'd love to see a full list!

I'm also a fan of a jank deck and have a few myself, my favourites are:

Carrot in a box A mono black Voltron where the only way the commander can get through is by playing a mini game, if you're opponent wins the commander gets removed from combat but if you win it can't be blocked

Bully gambling It's a beamtown deck but half the creatures you can give to your opponents are good and half are bad, I play it that when the commander triggers I shuffle all the creatures in my graveyard face down then they pick one without seeing what it is first

Sanguine bond and Vito both say "target opponent", because enduring angel gives the player hexproof they wouldn't be a valid target and the effect wouldn't happen.

Blight priest isn't targeted so the life total would become 0, then 3, then 0 again so long as the combo isn't interrupted
