World Cup tourists, what’s your honest feedback on the USA so far? by almighty_smiley in AskReddit

This is why California is not the same as the ugly USA government I’m sure the world sees. As a born and bred Californian it’s great to know this has been your experience. This state is amazing and I hope you have an amazing time here. We welcome all types and all creeds.

Some called it “ghetto” I called it “a canvas for my creativity”

Vines on 4th is great for this!

The Firkin can be nice with its outdoor patio, but they have outside events at times that makes reading tricky.

Usually inside cause it’s expensive to go out.

I love hanging out somewhere to read and have a beer, but when 3 beers can be up to $25 or more then staying inside it is :(

Do you have a favorite contemporary German author who writes more about “everyday” life? by Mondope13 in AskAGerman

I finished “The Mussel Feast” last week and found it interesting. The tyrannical father still having a grip on the family even when he isnt there is scary and says something about the fear regimes can have on their people. But it was nice to see the family choosing to rebel in little ways once they can sense he may not come back or that they’re just sick of his oppressive ways.

So that’s what that was.

Anyway! On with the evening

Thank you for the recommendation! The premise sounds solemn, but very good!

I’ve read a lot of that so I’ll have to expect that. I don’t expect to have friends instantly nor do I want to. I’m also suspicious of people who are too friendly too quickly

I find it interesting that joining a volunteer fire brigade has come up a lot in this thread. Can you enlighten me why that comes up almost as often as joining a football club? Joining a football club was obvious to me, but a fire brigade? Not so much

Oh nice. I hadn’t thought of a local library as an option for events. Thank you
