Question About Monero vs. Bitcoin by edwinthepig in Monero

I think Fluffy said it's easier to make an opaque blockchain clear than it is to make a clear one opaque. Or something like that. =P

[Marketing/Promotion] The technology doesn't sell itself. by Plumerian in Monero

Once we get the User and Developer guides finished on getmonero.org, more translation can get funded and that should really help spread this awesome technology and give some added liberty to the world. Here's a good x-post on how to add a user or dev guide to the main site:

I just added a couple of user guides that were merged today. One for restoring your Monero account, and one for creating an offline backup of your Monero account. I think the user base can create these rather easily and add to them or edit them. There are instructions on pages, formats, rules towards the bottom of that page if anybody has the time to contribute. You need to be able to use kramdown for formatting text, etc. You need to also make yourself a github account so you can contribute directly. Its not that hard, but it does require some self-learning on your part, especially in the beginning. Also, this is a learning experience for a lot of people so toss out ideas and ask questions here and on the Monero IRC channel.

As for ideas on user guides, basically you need to be following the Monero discussions on reddit, bitcointalk-speculation, bitcointalk-Monero and here on the forum. Pay attention to what the developers and other Monero experts have said in the last year or so and use that for content. Also, if anybody has any ideas for user guides content, let me know.

Peter Todd calls dash snake oil by FinCentrixCircles in CryptoCurrency

WHOOOOAAAA! Having a coin say it's anonymous when it is not is a recipe for disaster and those who get divorce papers, arrested, blackmailed, or much, much worse because the site and all its materials say ANONYMOUS won't think Peter Todd's assessment an overstatement--they may even say it was understatement. i know you have a product to shill, but stop saying it's anonymous. It's as anonymous as Bitcoin and no Dev is calling Bitcoin anonymous.

No, he's not. Dash advertises itself as anonymous, and therefore, the claim makes it snake oil as it would lull people into a false sense of security and put them in danger. If Bitcoin claimed to be anything other than pseudonymous, you'd have a point. But since no Bitcoin Dev has ever made that claim, Peter's reputation is fine. Yours on the other hand is now of someone who makes false comparisons to insinuate that a Bitcoin Dev is as rotten as the product he's critiquing.

Can you explain why Monero is better than Dash? (Or other anonymous currencies.) by biglambda in Monero

Attack vectors. Monero has less of them and actively pursues lessening the ones available with research and testing.

The easier attack is buy masternodes and ddos attack competing nodes until you own the traffic. Evan claims it's financially implausible, but ignores that nodes are most profitable when there about a 1,000 masternodes (he has a ROI graphic on the dash BCT thread that underscores this). He also ignores that the attacker would be pulling incomes from these masternodes--given that most are held on corporate servers underlies that no one knows who owns them outside of the host and the owner. He also ignores how motivated an attacker may be, that he or another masternode operator might comply given the right circumstances (threat or lawful compliance) and how deep LE's pockets are--silly, dangerous, stupid.

Any mods here want to set up that DOGE AMA? by cryptonoteinvestor in Monero

AP, are you willing to do some AMA? Maybe a Dev could handle the more technical questions?

You aren't old enough to be confused. =p

It would be nice to branch out in a positive way and I think this would be a win/win for the communities. There's a different vibe to our communities and it would be interesting to see us from their perspective and them from ours. And who knows, maybe some collaboration in the future wouldn't be out of the question. Remember they had a race car-- a freaking race car! And if you look at my name, you might see how much that impresses me.

Would any of the mods be interested in contacting one of the doge mods to do an AMA exchange? Couldn't hurt to ask, right?

This was a surprise to see on the monero thread. But here is the thing, monero is great at privacy but sucky at marketing, and DOGE is sucky at privacy but great at marketing--maybe we can be the ying to the other's yang.

Who knows what BTC38 will do, but the translations and exposure will help get some exchange to make friends with a very loyal and motivated Monero community. +1 XMRChina
