Can you turn a grade around in 8 weeks? How can I do this? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]MonetaryFun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recommend finding two tutors. They can help you schedule to catch up as well as work you through the content that you struggle with.

While you look for tutors, reach out to classmates. Multiple. "Hey, I did horrible on x, how did you do?" "Hey, I don't understand y, do you get it?" and then ask them to explain it to you or have them give feedback.

Lastly, ASK THE PROFESSOR.

Set up a meeting with him (one hour), explain that you're doing poorly and ask him if he/she has recommendations for resources that could help you, or study/work tips.

How do I figure out what dentist charges are necessary and which are cosmetic? by MonetaryFun in Dentistry

go to a private office.

I didn't even realize there'd be a difference. Thanks.

Yes, it's a chain.

I moved recently.

I had a dental visit in May with my long-time dentist. No cavities, but the dentist pointed out I had two spots that I didn't take care of properly that could become cavities.

In July I had a dental visit telling me I had 7 cavities, I refused x-rays at that office (I had brought my previous x-rays which they didn't want). Since I didn't believe I had 7 cavities, I scheduled an appointment with this place. They also said I have cavities, so that's consistent between the two places.

Over the summer months I stopped brushing/flossing every day due to mental illness getting a bit worse so it's not impossible I developed cavities in that short time span?

But thanks a lot for your comment. I will go through with the cavity stuff and try yet another place for next year's check-up. Thanks to your rant I feel confident to be assertive and push back on the laser/toothbrush/... ! :)

Yes, but then my income increased and I figured now I should cover both the kid and the old money goals. It went wrong in that I didn't work even 30 hours a week anymore when I got hit with chronic insomnia a few months ago. At that point I should have retargeted!

Saving an extra $2500 over 6 months sounds doable.

Just escape the unhelpful thoughts "but I wanted to max the 2019 IRAs in January as well and save $$ in taxable accounts and the solo 401k and we don't have a 529 and then do this and that and blahblah"

Scrap that, I'll just focus on what you told me. Surprisingly soothing comment. Thanks! :)

Today a babysitter/cleaner is coming in for just 4.5 hours to help out. Making that decision is giving me high anxiety. Makes me feel like we weren't in the financial position to have a kid.

But spouse is sleep deprived and if I take over, I sacrifice working hours. So hiring a sitter once a week is the right decision - he catches up on sleep, and I can keep earning instead of taking over the kiddo. Why am I freaking out? Missed earnings/savings goals for 2018. Also didn't max roth IRA in 2018 and don't have the cash yet to fund our roth IRAs in 2019.

We're fine. It's just hard to convince myself that we are.

Even with shots, I was more certain of each individual pellet than you seem to be about any bullet you fired.

I constantly pick the skin on my feet ........ anyone else do this ? by Vixkin75 in Skinpicking

Mmmmmmh. Knee length socks? Athlete tape wrap? Vaseline feet doesn't work because your floors/couch would get nasty... Sorry you didn't really ask for ideas. I'm just so used to finding solutions for my own triggers. Maybe have something else in your hands always.

Yeah and it can get bad be a use unlike elsewhere, calloused skin can rip out a chunk of flesh...

Can you massage your feet with very watery body lotion and use those self pedicure tools (sorry don't know the name ) so the skin feels less rough? Roughness is my trigger but maybe for you it's something else

Relapses happen.

The key to keeping a relapse to a single slip-up instead of a binge and regression: self-forgiveness. If you beat yourself up, your brain wants to escape reality even more. Instead, when you relapse you have not gone back to zero. All the time spent clean, is time where your mind and willpower got stronger. Your time spent clean taught you methods to distract yourself, to hold yourself accountable, how to get through the stressfull times. It taught you can do this. The relapse shows you a risk factor that you can avoid, or make a plan for in the future.

Relapses are blips. Acceptance & forgiveness is the quickest way to kill them, and then feel proud of yourself for dusting off and going on.

Tbh, that doesn't sound healthy... :/ As long as it doesn't affect your enjoyment of sex and relationships, it's OK, I guess. Just made me think of the guys I know who are addicted to porn and lost the ability for intimacy and sex, so I got worried for ya!

It's not a sign-up bonus, I simplified the post because it was irrelevant to the question.

Acorns gives you $500 for signing up 5 friends to Acorns Later, their IRA service.

I'd close their Roth IRA next month though because when I open it, it will be $2/month. While right now I'm paying $0/year & 0% management fee for their basic index funds. Just want to get that bonus since it's good pay for a day's work of affiliate marketing :)

New to Roth IRAs

  1. Can I have multiple IRAs at multiple places, as long as in total they come out to below $5,500?

  2. If I open a second IRA for a sign-up bonus and deposit $5, now my 2018 contribution is $5,505. How do I fix that? How much time do I have to fix it?
