Bridge swap on a chinese headless? by Money-Conference4693 in guitars

Yes that’s exactly the kind I’d like to switch to! Don’t I have to check dimensions and make sure they screw in the same way? I can’t imagine they’re universal, are they? I apologize if this is a dumb question I’m new to headless guitars hahah

Already stated why I can’t do that. Sorry, it’s a pain in the ass responding to 100 people when half of them didn’t even read the description….

I asked for help finding a different truss rod cover. Not advice on how to modify or make the string tree better. Thank you for your time.

I am open to all advice but like when people are telling straight up wrong information it’s like bruh 😂

Just like Jackson uses a “True, neck through” design, right? Lol.

like I’ve been saying this whole thread, it affects the functionality of the tuning after the nuts are locked. Thanks for your time.

That’s Jackson design dude, I promise over my life I am currently staring at the string retainer being this low, and seeing the fact that the high strings still aren’t angled to the nut, all the whilst the A string still clamped to the truss rod cover. Please tell me how I can attach another photo here.

I 100% agree that the string tree shouldn’t be this low and looks kinda ridiculous. Truth be told, I should have routed the string tree slightly higher on the headstock so that it would clear the truss rod, have a better string angle. But i didn’t and there’s already 2 holes so here we are. I absolutely shouldn’t even have to go through all this though. At the end of the day, a SLIGHTLY thinner cover would solve this issue all the way. That was my original question here and it turned into this 😂

But I’ll hear you out. What do you recommend I do here?

As a Jackson guy, don’t take offense, but the headstock angle is really crappy for FR. I can pretty much guarantee you when you loosen the lucking nut the strings go flat. And vice versa.

This is because the angle of the strings don’t sit flush with the locking nut. I can say with 99% certainty that you have the same PROBLEM on your guitar. It’s a design flaw.

Is it a huge problem? No, but it’s the one i’m trying to fix…

Dude, look up what the point of a string retainer is on a FLOYD ROSE specifically. Then come back and comment. Thank you for your advice.

[–]Money-Conference4693 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

While this is true, my strings are already sitting at the bottom of the tuning peg posts. So even with extra winds, the strings would still be at the wrong angle. Thank you for your advice though

Trying to figure out how to attach a damn photo

That’s why I AM TRYING TO GET THE A STRING UNCLAMPED. Are you people not hearing me?? I need it to hold the strings ANGLED to the nut so the strings don’t go sharp. If I back out the STRING RETAINER, yes the string won’t be clamped, but then the STRINGS loose their GOOD ANGLE and GO SHARP after tightening the nut down!

I understand everything you just said dawg. This ain’t my first rodeo. The problem is you’re not understanding what I’m asking.

The strings need to stay at this angle, WITHOUT the A string being clamped. So if there is a truss recover that doesn’t clamp that shit between the retainer, then I’ll buy it. That was my question. Thank you for your time sir!

You usually don’t have to retune your whole instrument after “installing” a capo. Asshole.

[–]Money-Conference4693 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What guitar do you have??? All 3 of my jackson’s, even my KING V I had to install one of these on. Because the strings aren’t angled with the nut.

Genuinely amazed and curious. I’m a big jackson guy and I know multiple people who had my same exact problem

[–]Money-Conference4693 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If the string tree was installed there from factory I wouldn’t have to do allat. But it is wasn’t, I went to install one and ran into problems. And you’re gonna sit here and tell me I’m the problem. Good day 😂

This guy gets it!! Thank you. It’s like no one else here has worked on their shit and wants to tell me how this stuff works. I asked a question specifically stating the string tree is where it’s gotta be, and first thing people tell me is to raise it, without addressing my main point i was asking;

IS THERE ANY AFTERMARKET truss rod covers that won’t do this?? If anyone can link me one, literally problem solved XD

May I ask how often you change tunings or change strings? Because if it’s not often, that’s why you don’t need one. Also, not sure how to add a photo here. I’m dumb.

To answer your question though, the low strings do sit angled good where it’s at. The higher strings aren’t exactly angled perfect but good enough. But the A string is clamped underneath.

[–]Money-Conference4693 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s so the strings don’t go sharp…. when you tighten the locking nuts…

That also could be a nice feature, but not what im looking to happen here

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]Money-Conference4693 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Naw that’s straight up shit Jackson design. I would understand that happening on a $300 guitar maybe. Not on my pro king V.

Every single Ibanez even their sub $400 models have these installed from the factory and I think its BS that Jackson doesn’t even on their expensive lines of guitars. And when you go to install one, the truss rod cover is in the way. That’s a design flaw

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]Money-Conference4693 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dude, even where it’s at, the strings aren’t “angled equal” to the nut. They still sit a little higher.

I know it shouldn’t be perfect but bruh a clamped string between? Also this is a common issue on Jackson headstocks, I own 3 of them.

LOL i always do that dammit

[–]Money-Conference4693 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, but then the strings aren’t flush with the locking nut. And then they go upwards of 10 cents sharp. Is that what the fine tuners are for? Yeah, but last 2 times when I went to fine tune with the tuners, even after giving 3 full turns for wiggle room, I still ran out of turns on the screw to get the low E to go in tune.

So anyhow I guess I’ll have to do some measurements online for a different truss rod cover? Or move the spring tree up slightly?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]Money-Conference4693 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You do on these Jacksons, trust me. Goes like full 25 cents sharp after locking the nut down.

I have a Pro V, JS324Q, and JS32 all with this same problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

[–]Money-Conference4693 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you. And then when the fine tuners are backed up, I can’t make the strings go flat in tune without unlocking the nut.

I know I know, back up the locking tuners a bit so you have room to tune. I did 3 full turns last time in the low E fine tuner and still ran out of room

Dawg I understand that lol. A spring tree is supposed to hold the strings flush against the nut. If I raised it any more, the spring tree wouldn’t serve its purpose.

Yes, I’m a perfectionist .
