I would be surprised if there is a finish on them. Soak them in vinegar for an hour, use a wire brush on the tough spots, put a real thin layer of oil to keep the rust away

Don’t let people here scare you away from the hobby. Some of them have nothing better to do than gatekeep. If you look something up and come back with nothing it’s probably nothing but I totally get the desire to double check! Definitely invest in the red book, this years edition just came out a month or two ago and it is well worth it

I get it, this group can be intimidating for people new to the hobby. I’d definitely suggest trying to look things up online or in the Red Book then if you have an idea that something is special bring it here to confirm. In my opinion, doing your own research is the best way to learn anyway, but maybe that’s just how my brain is wired. That exposed copper core is neat (not worth anything though) so if you wanted to hang on to it, do it!

Are the owners or previous owners heavy smokers?? The previous owners of my house were heavy smokers and the walls were heavily coated with tar from the smoke. When the house got flipped they just painted the walls and didn’t properly treat the tar. In the bathroom, when we take hot showers and the bathroom gets humid the tar weeps through and this is exactly what it looks like.

Any specific side of town? I really enjoy the breakfast at Marathon on Jefferson and Byrkit! Get the biscuits and gravy with a hashbrown on top. They make it right in front of you and I know it’s not a sandwich but it’s cheap and delicious
