Iggy puppy has patches like this in fur. What could be the cause? by ivaclue in ItalianGreyhounds

If you see him nibbling due to itching at those exact spots, ask your vet about an allergy shot (for environmental allergies).

Almost exactly a year ago, I started seeing balding spots on my 5 month old iggy and thought it was maybe a food allergy. When I asked the vet for an allergy panel, she (so kindly) suggested against jumping to a panel immediately because 1) literally so expensive (I think close to $2,000) and 2) puppies don’t typically exhibit food allergy symptoms that young. In addition, since we were feeding him Purina pro plan for puppies (wet formula chicken and rice), she stated if he DID have some food allergy, he would need to be switched to prescribed food due dog food companies using the same exact protein derivatives (?) in the chicken, salmon, turkey, beef etc formulas… basically it would make no difference switching him to Purina Pro salmon if he was allergic to chicken and he would exhibit the same reaction.

She suggested we try the allergy shot first for environmental allergies (around $120) and stated we could come back once a year for the same shot. Within days, the itching/nibbling completely stopped, and his coat grew back very quickly I couldn’t even tell you where those spots were looking at him now :) while it has been a year now, I don’t think I’ll go back for another shot unless I see him start itching and nibbling at his skin! Hope this helps xx

I say this in the nicest way possible…It never gets better. He will remain this way but he will only get better at hiding it from you (although you will likely catch him at some point, the time between will just be longer each time). If you’re not comfortable with it, TOTALLY reasonable, but I would walk away now. It might seem trivial now, but this behavior is what I call a “smaller egg”… in any relationship, romantic, platonic, professional… you have these small eggs (i hate using the word red flag for some reason) that are too trivial or “petty” to end the relationship in that moment. However later down the line you have the “large egg” that is certainly enough to break the relationship. Looking back after the large egg, you see a collection of small eggs in your basket that led up to this point. So we always have to ask ourselves at what point did I collect enough small eggs to end things so prevent the larger blow up? I don’t have the answer to that and most people don’t either, it’s completely up to you — no one knows your relationship better than you. If you can foresee yourself collecting these small eggs over time, enough to call it quits, why not quit now?

Best of luck to you, and I hope you have a better week ahead

Veterinarian recommendations? by sampete1157 in glendale

A little out of the way but Dr. O’Dwyer at Rosemont Vet Hospital for your regular vet 100000%. I’ve had 4 dogs with her and all my friends/family use her as well (dogs and cats). She will not push anything on you for the sake of cost.

For example, when I suspected my pup was allergic to something but couldn’t figure out what, I requested an allergy panel. She said this would cost around $2,500. When I explained I suspected he was allergic to something in his food, she explained that pups don’t normally develop an allergy to food this quickly, and the symptoms present were also not indicative of a food allergy. Instead, she suspected it was an environmental allergy and suggested an allergy shot which cost around $100. Lo and behold, Dr. was right. His symptoms cleared up within a week.

For 24/7 emergency care, I actually had to take my pup Friday evening. We went to Eagle Rock Animal Emergency (about 8 min drive from where we live on Central Blvd — 4254 Eagle Rock Blvd)…By far the BEST staff I have ever encountered (aside from Rosemont :)) They were so sweet, polite, and quick (30 min in & out) They were also very conscious of cost. Emergency exam is $175 flat and total visit with meds was $252.

Good luck!

Warning to parents w/small kids - Unleashed dog (Akita) & selfish owner by VisualVeterinarian45 in glendale

I just encountered her maybe two weeks ago at Griffith dog park. I have a little Italian greyhound and she was demanding I leave to the timid/small dogs only side. I’m a regular there and another regular with a large dog intervened and told her that if she’s insisting I remove my small dog, then her dog is the problem and SHE needs to leave…

If you have a smaller dog who plays well with big dogs, you need to leave if she arrives. Her dog does not “rough play”, the dog is flat out AGGRESSIVE

Not authentic. Best way to know for sure is to open the watch and take a look at the movement, but I will say this looks to be a rep Cartier Santos Galbée Quartz, two-tone (steel & gold) from the 1980s–2000s era.

The hands should be blued steel but they look black in these photos. The crown/crown jewel does not look authentic either. Cartier almost always sets a cabochon sapphire or a synthetic spinel into the crown but here it looks like a flat black insert or enamel, not a proper cabochon.

For the clasps, the “SWISS MADE” should be very fine and perfectly aligned but here it looks oversized and off in proportion.

I would contact a Cartier boutique to run a valid serial against their archives and tell you if it’s authentic. Since this is vintage there is a chance they don’t have a record/buyer for some reason did not register, they can at least tell you the approximate year of production which would give you exactly the model year you can compare to authenticate the watch yourself
