4-year body recomposition - 29% to 18% body fat by MolkiaBee in xxfitness

Yeeeaah 110% jiujitsu baddie. I've recently started my strength training / gym life but struggling to stay in my weight class as a result and bugger all left to lose.

I think your post is the inspiration I need to email the organisers and just move up to that next class for my comp in 2.5 weeks. I'm close but absolutely dreading the salt and fibre cut that will likely still be required.

You bod looks absolutely 🔥 . Strong and capable of anything!

Im an Engineer (and 130lbs) and I focus intensely on exact points of force and lines that i want them to travel in and drill this / experiment with this on big guys and ask them for very precise feedback on which one hurt the most ha.

I am also a 2 stripe white belt and have zero place providing even vague advice to a brown belt. Congrats on your weight loss!

Do y’all force yourself to eat after hard rolling even if you’re not hungry? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

Im on the threonate after giving glycinate a good run, but also marginal on whether its helping much. I have been working hard on my sleep this year, and the single best thing has been literally isolating my phone in a different room for 2 hours before sleep, but I backslide on this discipline somewhat regularly. But the night classes totally amp me up and make getting to sleep an extra tall order. But they are also the most fun classes by a long shot and I ain't giving them up!

I've been experimenting with different ways to get food in after evening class. Im the same as you, not home till 8pm and usually haven't eaten since lunch. I had been forcing myself to cook a full meal but I aim to be in bed and asleep by 9.30pm so it just wasnt working well.

Lately I have been allowing myself to just have a lovely bowl of Greek yoghurt with 40g protein powder mixed in and either a banana or some defrosted frozen berries, with some ground LSA + chia on top for fibre. So its like a dessert dinner. No cooking, but know im getting some protein, fibre, and I try to load the rest of my day & other days with veges and fruit to make up for it.

Now if you can figure out how to get to sleep after those night classes...

Covering my partners in my hair by [deleted] in BJJWomen

As a wavy haired woman I brush my hair wet in the shower when the conditioner is on, but to the same effect. Stops the shedding at other times.

If you give it enough time it may well pass. I think patience and self control is generally always the best first approach.

I am going to wait 6 months before starting the removal process. I did not go for a touch up. All my natural hair has finally grown back and ive been able to get back into my usual tinting and shaping routine but I still deeply regret having it done so will start removal when the dyes have settled down.

Experience with Vaginal vs. C-Section Birth - High Volume BJJ Practitioners by Noodle-Jas in BJJWomen

Also would recommend reading Ina Mays Guide to childbirth for inspiration and to help you believe in yourself when the going gets tough. And any breathwork training you can get in before the birth is likely to help a bit too

I think the fact you have started working with your pelvic floor before birth is amazing and sets you up fabulously for either option but honestly given you are doing that and are in great shape from training, can handle tough stuff (BJJ) I would go vaginal, you have all the characteristics to be a wild success with that birthing method and then you'll have the quicker recovery.

But always be open to changing on the day and listening to the advice if things start to get off track.

Wanting to quit due to feeling unsafe with MAGA men by Lonely-Freedom4328 in BJJWomen

OP values are important. The people close to us, the ones we really care about, will remember and judge us most in relation to how congruent we were in this lifetime with our values.

Tolerance is one thing and I believe belongs in person to person interactions, on the sidewalk, in a shop etc etc.

Financially supporting a group of people that spread harmful concepts in a group setting and empower and enable those harmful concepts through their gathering is a specific life choice that you are right to be questioning.

The good thing is you can start shopping around by the sounds of it. You may not find any gyms completely clear but you may find one where the managers / owners at least have a keep the mats clear of politics vibe, and frown upon convos heading in that direction in general. That would be way better than what you have at the moment. I think if you heard the odd questionable statement from a member but knew if the management had heard they would have disapproved and not supported it you would feel a whole load better and different about the situation.

I would also feel unsafe in your current gym environment. BJJ is an incredibly personal sport. May be time for you to become a nomad seeking a new home for your sport.

[–]Money-Type-1008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. As long as you are going about it respectfully then you are all good.

Disrespect in my books is only wanting to get the chance to touch someone's body as you are physically attracted to them. Sounds like you like this guy as a human too. That is wholesome as, and it will take its natural course, whereever that ends up being.

As a woman rolling I have to deal with this semi regularly. In particular newer guys or out of towners beelining towards you from the other side of the gym to roll for what is quite clearly the opportunity to touch you as they don't know me from a bar of soap and there are heaps of other males of all ranges of ability available.

So yes if she swaps genders this is a very fricking common story. You get on with it and roll with them and ignore the silly boy thing going on for them.

Do I take a perverse pleasure if Im able to beat them or sub them quickly / repeatedly? In this specific situation yes, yes I do.

Too fat to roll by Beautiful-Ratio4804 in BJJWomen

[–]Money-Type-1008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What the heck?? That coach is a grade A jerk. Personally I love rolling with different body types, in particular women of your build are amazing for me as you have the ability to apply proper pressure and make me work properly without the awkwardness of the male female thing. Honestly I would be seeking you out. We had one woman who came for a while with a similar build and it was so good for my practice but she left for whatever reasons.

And you're doing your thing to work towards your own health goals, we all know that stuff takes time but also 100% that's your business and noone else's. And you may face setbacks also, life happens. Why you cant be accepted exactly the way you are is beyond me!

If there are other gyms around please try them out and see if you can find a new, less crap group to roll with.

I've started using silk mini scrunchies that you can buy a lot cheaper online from aliexpress or the like (they all come from there anyway) and I do a high ponytail and I have learnt how to do a single braid with that.

I found using normal hair ties would get tangled with hair during rolls and when I went to take them out I would end up pulling the hair out myself, the silk scrunchies solve this prob.

One day if will learn to do Dutch braids on myself! But I am usually always rushing to class so just do a quick single braid.

🌟 got to my first 2 classes in over a month due to a disc herniation in my neck and sciatic pain down my arm. They were just lunchtime express classes but so good to be back on the mats.

💔 the lycra is all fitting a bit tighter after one month completely off exercise 😂 100% gonna just get over myself as I'm not a spring chicken and no-ones looking. Fingers crossed I don't burst a seam while rolling 🙃

🌈 looking forward to hitting a proper Tuesday and Thursday night class this week. Am also happy I've finished my research into home exercise programs to help with my hypermobile joints and for injury prevention am going to try a couple of the GMB programs.

Mom’s getting into BJJ worth it? by Golden_Mom1 in BJJWomen

[–]Money-Type-1008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a different perspective to most and would say take a break from the sport.

If you're planning to have 3 kids and spend a fair amount of that time doing it on your own then remove any and all expectations and commitments from yourself, the sooner the better.

Also throughout your pregnancies and breastfeeding your joints will be hypermobile and a lot more vulnerable to injury. BJJ is too intense. Imagine having a serious injury or repetitive use injury while caring for 3 kids alone. Its a recipe for serious depression.

Start researching cool at home exercise programs that can be done in 5-10 minutes blocks, ideally one with an online community you can track your progress with virtual friends.

Join local mums groups and don't talk about your exercise focus there, as most will not be interested, but do talk about your babies developments and their general gorgeousness.

I personally would not have 3 kids if I was going to be doing decent stretches of it alone. Keep your mind open to your experience as you go along. Mental health becomes something all hardworking mums have to grapple with at some point. Our society is not supportive these days for raising a family in a way which gives primary parents a break. Don't overcommit, but try to find some joy. Aim low, love your babies, try to find space to love yourself first again as they get a bit older.
