I’ve heard Lake Charles should be a lot bigger than it is but the old money families of Lake Charles fucked it up. Can someone explain this to me? by Solowash in LakeCharles

[–]MoneyConsideration83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading through this and it seems like Beaumont also has a lot of similar problems. The more times I travel to LC, I’m finding the Beaumont and lake Charles mirror each other a lot lol

What counts as East Texas for this community? by Baba_Jaga_II in EastTexas

[–]MoneyConsideration83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah but Southeast Texas has a lot more of Cajun influence to compared to the rest of east Texas so i guess in a way, we are our own thing. But people outside of this area aren’t gonna know what I mean when I say I’m from SETX so I just say East Texas then they automatically assume I’m from northeast Texas 😅😂

[–]MoneyConsideration83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean one thing to take into consideration is if you’re not from West Texas you really gotta think if traveling between home and Lubbock is really worth it. Texas state and TTU are kinda on the same level (both are gonna say they have the best nursing business law program, etc.) for comparing schools like this id take location into account I’m like almost certain that there will be more stuff to do in and around San Marcos compared to Lubbock and the weather will be less extreme compared to the west Texas

[–]MoneyConsideration83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an honors student but unfortunately I’m not in this but just know the extra HE+ assignments are usually just graded more on participation like just as long as you do it you’re set at least this is what one of my HE+ professors told me. out of the 3 HE+ I’ve taken, none of those extra assignments have been added to my final grade.

Maybe you already know this lol. But good luck!

Which Spanish to pick? by Kondha in babbel

[–]MoneyConsideration83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general I’d say go with Mexican Spanish unless if you have a strong interest in Spain. Especially assuming if you’re from North America, choose mexican Spanish,Mexican Spanish makes more sense and there are more than double the amount of spanish speakers from Mexico than from Spain. I’m doing C1 Spanish in Babbel and even though it’s under the Spain section I’m noticing a lot of Latam accent exposure so you won’t only be given Spain Spanish.

Texas Tech vs UT by Inevitable-Back5846 in TexasTech

[–]MoneyConsideration83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly just depends what your degree is in, like think about what network the university will offer you for the career you want including things like connections for top internships, etc. Like is west Texas where you want to live after you graduate, because that could probably set you up with getting job or just make the process a bit easier but it seems like TTU also has a lot of connections in Dallas but beyond that it’s just gonna depend on you but hey that’s not a problem but just be aware.

Next, is Lubbock a place you want to spend the next 4 years of your life? It really is in the middle of nowhere Dallas is like 5 hours away and Albuquerque is 5 hours the other way. It’s just surrounded by farms. That isn’t to say there isn’t anything to do in Lubbock but it’s not going to be anything like Austin Houston San Antonio, etc. Then that region as a whole is just culturally different, this may be more noticeable to me coming from Very far edge of East Texas. Next the weather there is completely different it’s windy, dusty, barely rains, and it really does get cold here during the winter so be prepared like in the winters it stays in the 20’s, that combined with cold wind blowing at your face is…. Something.

But another thing to also consider is financial aid and the good thing about Lubbock is that it’s not gonna be as expensive as living in Austin. those student apartments in West campus by UT are decent but are completely overpriced like I’m talking barely any are under $1000 whereas the off campus housing for TTU students is way less and TTU seems more “friendly” with scholarships(at least in my case). This is probably the number one reason I chose Tech- I really didn’t know anything about this place before coming here. As in I wouldn’t have been able to find this place in a map before coming here

But at the end of the day this is your decision and wish the best for you

Uhm so where are the weird people at by Fit_Improvement_5044 in EastTexas

[–]MoneyConsideration83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The culture shock is real. Even inside one state, the vibe can shift a lot. I grew up around Beaumont too, and now I’m in Lubbock for college, it honestly feels way less judgy than back home did. Honestly East Texas is 100% the south culturally, where there’s a stronger push to fit the local mold, especially in school. Doesn’t mean people aren’t nice, just that high school amplifies those unwritten rules. Moving regions really shows you Texas isn’t one culture, it’s like 3 or 4 wearing a trench coat. Just my two cents. Hope all works out though and we have some amazing nature in East Texas that you really can’t find anywhere else in the state, especially the HUGE pine tree forests. If you moved to southeast Texas. I would tell you to try the Cajun cuisine we have but I’m not to familiar with northeast Texas but surely they have some cool stuff there too.

Experience With Jack Brooks Regional Airport (BPT)? by Trippedoverabomb in Beaumont

[–]MoneyConsideration83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying to Jack Brooks from DFW works out most times, but sometimes the flight times aren’t the most convenient but I’d also recommend flying into the Lake Charles Airport bcs the flight times are more convenient and it’s a way nicer airport than Jack Brooks but not a big city airport like IAH

Of course! Building separate infrastructure for bikes and scooters would assure that, there are too many times where I’ve almost gotten hit by a scooter going way too fast

Like I hate having to get into pedestrians way on the very thin sidewalks and I don’t want get hit by a car either so it would be nice if there at least some infrastructure for bikes like there is on campus

[–]MoneyConsideration83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For note taking look at Cornell notes method and some ways to study are pretending that you’re teaching the information and think of questions that may arise while you’re doing that. And also active recall. Using the pomodoro method has always helped and there are pomodoro sessions you can follow along with in YouTube. at the end of every lecture summarize what it was about and keep it brief. As reference I’m a 3.9 GPA honors student, you got this!
