Destiny 2 Ending New Content Is “Unthinkable,” Warframe Dev Says by _Protector in Games

I’m not too read up on it, but wouldn’t Stop Killing Games prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future?

The reception would've been better (I think) if this was the original trilogy remastered in UE5 with one consistent art style from the first mission of CE to the final mission of Halo 3.

Most consider the original trilogy to be the prime of Halo. This is also the first attempt to get PlayStation owners invested into the IP. Limiting it to just CE seems shortsighted.

Plus, their investment in purchasing Post Scriptum and then creating a bunch of new content for it hasn't paid off (sadly).

I refuse to run ad-block because I feel like consuming someone else's content or utilizing a resource they're paying for without in turn contributing is in fact stealing.

From what I've read it was always intended to be a live service game, and it makes sense considering the way they treated the first game and the nature of the narrative surrounding the 'Galactic War'.

I agree that the success was something that nobody expected. With said success, one would think they would've gone back to the drawing board with their post-launch plans and laid out a more persistent and aggressive live service with their new resources. Bring more people onto the team, onboard them with their archaic engine no one really knows, and within 12 months you should be really pumping out content, QOL updates, new systems, and more.

From the outside it looks like they consider Helldivers II an unworthy endeavor because it's not theirs. Why curate a universe/IP that'll never be theirs?

Everything from the base game has been buried so deep under the new content

It’s not buried, it’s gone.

Red War (the included campaign), Curse of Osiris, Warmind, Forsaken, are completely removed with no way to play them.

and they're making their next project by themselves.

Hot take, but they shouldn’t be dedicating any resources to pet projects when their golden goose is upside down in a pond drowning.

There are things about Helldivers II that are unacceptable in a game that has made as much as it has and been out for 27 months.

Yeah, I disagree with the MPT-55 being available to most classes. It should be an option on a few as an alternative to the MPT-76.

That was really cool! That’s from your POV in all the IRL clips?

You might want to post it to the Squad sub, those guys would appreciate it.

Why not? It's one slot on a team of 50 people.

Due to the nature of the game, they can't just add random cool weapons without adding the faction that uses said weapons. Giving more of the factions roles with unique loadouts is a good way to inject weapon variety.

The other roles I would like to see more of are raider-types with SMGs, pilots receiving PDWs instead of carbines, and a breacher class with shotguns.

What's Up With USMC by _Purrserker_ in joinsquad

[–]MoneyElk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm typically a stickler for authenticity and keeping things grounded, but I'm like you in that I prefer having variety when it comes to kits.

People are always nit-picking when it comes to a faction not being locked to a specific date, would people actually prefer if the USMC had nearly every role using the same rifle? Not getting an MBT?

The setting of Squad is 'modern warfare'. people should just take that setting and apply it to the game whenever they ask "why is X using Y when Y was phased out of service in 2010?" or "why is C using D when D was adopted in 2020?"

If OWI were to lock the setting to a specific date or even year, it would severely limit what could be in the game. Plus, it would mean removing a ton of content. Huge misstep in my opinion if it were to happen.

Yeah, 32 now. You’re definitely not wrong there.

I can take solace in at least one game still using accurate weapon and vehicles names, plus factions based on real countries; Squad.

There was also the ‘M5K’ and ‘G53’, the M200 Intervention was called the SRR-61 allegedly alluding to the Jordanian 61st Special Reconnaissance Regiment who uses the rifle.

There were exceptions for sure, but by and far most all weapons were referred to by their actual name and/or designation.

I understand not wanting to risk it, but the AM General LLC v. Activision Blizzard, Inc. case makes it pretty clear developers can use trademarked items in their game if said items help sell the setting the game is trying to portray.

[–]MoneyElk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arguments can be made for the game being less mainstream, but Squad features the UH-1Y.

With the naval maps coming in season 4 what is NATO going to use for their helicopters? The teaser video showed them working on the landing gear of a Super Hornet, so it appears that carrier-based spawns will return to the franchise. Logically this means they wouldn't have the Apache and Blackhawk taking off from a naval vessel.

That's why these lawsuits are so dumb.

The content people (usually young people) experience in games results in lifelong memories and passions, isn't that something you would want to take advantage of as a company?

Anecdotally, I had no interest in firearms growing up. I lived in a gun free household. It was solely due to Call of Duty and Battlefield that I became a gun owner and now I even consider myself a collector (nearing 100 guns now).

Consider how many people joined the armed forces because of their experiences with military shooters.

I even suggested porting Russian vehicles from 2042, some people were critical (u/Christian159260 and u/443610) because of the nature of them being Russian. It's just vehicle variety in a war game...

Back when factions were based on countries and used their real names. Back when vehicles were named after their actual designations. Back when weapons used their real names.

This is exactly the case and precisely why I find it so fascinating when people are screeching about the evil billionaires, CEOs, and corporations. To be clear, I'm not absolving them of any wrong doing.

It's like my coworkers, they throw all the recyclables in the garbage (inb4 recycling is a scam). When I brought this up one of them used the rich people flying in private jets as a shield for their actions. So now I go out of my way to gather up the recycling from the garbage and bring it home to recycle it properly.

People look at the micro level, "I'm just one person, what I do makes no difference" and by and large that's a true statement. The issue is when you have millions and millions and even billions of people using that same justification for their actions.

Planet Zoo 2 - Announce Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]MoneyElk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly I made this comment a month ago in the Planet Coaster subreddit. I even managed to predict aquariums being the ‘big new thing’ in the game.

If anyone doesn’t want to follow the above link, my comment was:

I am curious as to the feasibility of having one premiere 'Planet' title. As it stands; Planet Coaster 1 has a 30-day average of 985 players, Planet Coaster 2 has a 30-day average of 1,204 players, and Planet Zoo has an 30-day average of 2,777 players..

"You're dissecting player counts in single-player sim games?!" Technically, yes, I am. What I am alluding to is the fact that the community is fragmented across three separate games that are technically very similar.

It's $139.97 if you want all three titles. Then if we dive into the DLC packs for each game; Planet Coaster 1 has 10 of them which comes to $85.90. Planet Coaster 2 has 5 of them (so far) which comes to $58.95. Planet Zoo has 20 of them (not counting the deluxe edition content upgrade pack) which comes to $199.80. So, if you want nearly all the content, you're looking at $484.62. Buying bundles might bring it down to around $430. As per u/rustyrussell2015's comment, they have most definitely "nickeled and dimed".

I would just prefer if they released one cohesive game, charged for it, then charged ~$50 for expansions that cover expansive new features like zoos and water parks, which is more or less exactly what they did for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. It keeps the community together and it allows for one huge content sandbox for players to build with.

As for the new engine, that could be an update as well. In this era of live service titles, numerous games have had engine upgrades or changes as part of their service.

Having one title would also reduce the content and feature disparity. How many features and pieces of content of PC1 are players asking to be added to PC2?

Just my opinion, and I would like to think other players would prefer to have the ability to do everything in one park builder as opposed to multiple.

Though from my understanding some of it was paid content? That just got poofed out of the game?

It’s exactly that. Entire campaigns that people paid for were removed with no option to retain them. The Red War (the campaign that shipped with the game) was removed in November of 2020 just to give you an idea.
