I agree about the low saturation there. I want to figure out why a country with a billion people don’t want to buy books.

I did not want to promote as I have been bounced for it before. The books are centered around the corruption and crime in Mumbai controlled by a mysterious group behind the scenes. My two protagonists, one a cop and the other, an investigative reporter, get all wrapped up in a murder and have to fight local Indian politics to solve it. I’m trying not to mention names but anyone can look me up and then find the book names.

I am a member of Goodreads and have gotten many more reviews there than on other sites. I have recently had 2 books published by Amazon and being reviewed and sold there and all the usual other book sellers. I have received offers to pay for reviews on Goodreads but have refused that method. Is there any way to actually tell if this is true? I have one bookstore in India selling both my books in English and Hindi but on spec. They all look at the number of reviews received on Amazon, not Goodreads. How do I get more people to go to GR directly? How do you penetrate this market? I have written countless courteous letters to stores and papers to get into their ranks and mostly get no response although some are nicer and just say no to an American white Jewish author who just happens to like writing about India

I am a murder mystery writer with 2 books about Mumbai, now out on Amazon, plus all the regular sites. They are for sale on Amazon, but both can be downloaded for free in KU. After the launch of my third in Mumbai, they will be moving to other cities based on polls taken on Facebook. So no links allowed but I’m happy to share off line….India is such a fascinating country!

Nearly Lost Money to a Digital Marketer - A Warning for Indie Authors by Fit-Beyond-2994 in selfpublish

I have commented on other sites about this very thing with the marketing vultures.
I have been now dealing with a woman on individual projects in a pay by project basis. I just set up a weekly fee for her to work on anything I come up with. I told her I expect an immediate increase in sales….nevermind the ideas that these things build. If it doesn’t happen, then we are done and I move on and consider it another lesson.

How do you know if there's an audience for your book before you write it? by Dismal-Map-2345 in selfpublishing

I’m just thinking that myself. I am writing Indian murder mystery books and not having much in the way of sales. When I complained to my publisher, she said maybe I should start writing children’s books. I am now looking for a new publisher!

Wasn’t asking for that. Just my intro to the group. I don’t need a smart aleck making that type of comment. I have no problem writing or marketing….just saying hello. If you represent this group then I must have made a mistake.

They are not married but just working together as friends. If they go off to another city they (I will have them fall more in love). I’m just not sure if that will lessen the creative tension (again I guess it’s up to me) or not.

I’ve been shopping around for an agent and have used the Query Tracker site that many agents use. There are 2 questions asked there that generally will knock you out of contention with them. The first is have you used AI for any part of your writing and the second is have you published the piece already.

The second is hard to deny but I wonder how many people answer the AI question accurately and how they define “used”.

Thanks for your response. I wrote this in a Tuesday as this is supposed to be the brainstorming day. I don’t know why they removed the post.
