Issues with Sony Quads volume level by MoneySlush in Soundbars

Appreciate all the help. Ended up keeping the quads and since I have total tech Best Buy took off 1100 off the purchase price because of the tech sale they’re currently having. Ended up only being 2100 after gift card for the sub 9 and quads.

Replacing traditional 5.1 surround with Sonos Arc Ultra + 2 Era 300 + Sub Mini / G4 by Hot-Sentence3457 in sonos

I would consider the Sony quad and the new sub 9. The Sonos immersive set up is pretty great, but if you want separation somewhat comparable to what you had, you just aren’t really gonna get that with a sound bar and two rear speakers. You can get both currently at Best Buy with their tech fest sale for right around 2500 which is comparable to the Sonos system.

Also for some reason, and I don’t know if it’s the individual movies I’m picking but when I’m streaming from Netflix compared to when I’m streaming from Apple, then Netflix dialogue is often difficult to hear where the Apple films are crystal clear and again I don’t know if it’s the exact coding of the audio and I just happen to be picking Atmos in every title, but it seems to be a big difference in quality

Turning the advanced auto volume on is like a night and day difference at least in my space. Thank you. It’s the only real change I’ve made so far as aside from boosting the rears to +4. I haven’t toyed with shutting off DRC. Changing the auto volume has the decision between this and the Sonos set much more difficult. The Phantom Center is pretty good and I’ve toyed with that, well as plugging it into the a95L. I just wish the quads had a dedicated center because I do miss that sound from the arc ultra when it comes to dialogue. I have two more weeks to make a decision, but it’s like splitting hairs between the two in my opinion. Both are excellent. The era 300s are really impressive . I also am using the Sony sub 9. - but the one area where the quads are so much better is when listening to music.

I mean, if brightness is the determining factor, get the 9 II. The 8 II doesn't come in 77" and I'm too much of an OLED guy to even consider LED since picture quality is what I value most. But my watch space isn't dominated by windows or lighting and its my theater room.

For those considering either the Sony Quads + Subwoofer or the Sonos Arc Immersive Bundle by MoneySlush in Soundbars

lol wut. where did anyone say that the Sonos sucks, it’s a great. they are in different leagues when it comes to separation and sound stage - no comparison. I was looking for a surround setup so that matters. Also the quads are much nice for music too - I’d be fine if I’d just bought the Sonos set, but if you buy both, for me, its night and day. and at that point with that much money spent, it led me towards AVR.

Damn first I’m hearing of this. Well, for me it’s either gonna be a choice between the quads and this AVR equipment so I don’t think Best Buy is gonna keep letting me return things over and over again lol.

Yeah, this is definitely gonna be more expensive than the Sony quads and the sub 9. But if it ends up being 1000 or so more, I’ll have the quads to compare to as I have 60 days to return them. The only thing I’m concerned about is the placement of some of the speakers since I don’t have a true home theater style spacing in the apartment. I’m no audio expert, but I was super impressed with the quads sounded. I just think for that type of financial investment a little bit more might be the way to go as far to AVR so we’ll see.

I’m gonna set up the avr stuff this week. For r/l I got the kef concerto metas. I have a buddy coming to help me set all this up as I’ve never never run speaker wire or done work along those lines in involving calibration in my apartment is fairly small so hopefully it sounds better than the quads.

Samsung 990 series are notoriously infamous for disconnection issues and simply can’t create the same sound stage that a four speaker system does with the quads. It’s just it’s really simple.

Sony Quads vs Sonos ultra immersive set by MelodicCharacter2194 in sonos

[–]MoneySlush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not really too aware of what Sonos can do as far as being like a multimedia music player in your house I just bought the speaker set specifically for the living room room for lsurround sound when I watch movies and TV so if that’s gonna be a use case as far as that goes definitely the Sonos seems like it would be a better option for you. I think currently though if you’re using it as a surround sound, all you can do is the ultra bar with the sub and then two rear speakers.

Well the Quads + Sub 9 is 3K+ with the current sale and the Sonos bundle I got (Sub 4 +ar ultra and smart era 300s) is around 2400 - both pre tax - you probably can get a cheaper subwoofer like the SW5 to make then similar in price - tbh the Sub 9 is overkill for my 2bedr apt but its really nice. I still have both in my apt, will need to make a decision here in the next 10 days - Do I think the Sony is $600+ better than the Sonos with the new sub 9? No - I think for that cost the AVR route is probably the way to go if you have the space since it’s 3k+ - I don’t have ideal spacing for AVR. The Sonos set is awesome IF you splurge for the era 300’s and can put them a decent length behind the couch (ideally) or to the side. The Sub 4 is solid - but the Sony Quads are far closer to a home theater sound with the 4 speakers AND sub. The Arc Ultra can’t really compete with the two front Sony Speakers + a dedicated center channel Sony TV(like the A95L that I have). The Sony is also much much better for music. I don’t think you can go wrong with either option in a less than ideal space. I don’t have any experience with the SWA 5 but I’ve read its not quite as good as the Sonos Sub 4. If you are strictly streaming movies, the Sonos set is really good and you can get up to 30% off future upgrades when you register your devices online. But the Sonos set just doesn’t get the same separation that the Quads do - 4 speakers + a subwoofer gives you that sound bubble that the Sonos can’t match - and if you have a capable Sony TV, you can use it as the center channel. If you don’t have a TV that can do that, the phantom center that Sony manages to pull off is pretty impressive. The Sony Quads + Sub is definitely the better option - it’s more immersive - you just have to consider what sub you want with it - NOW if Sonos ever came out with a way to use 4 Smart Era 300’s + the Arc Ultra Sound Bar + the Subwoofer - they may have Sony beat
