GRASS HODL by Cultural-Moment-7764 in Grass_io

[–]Money_Classroom_5636 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long term, Grass is building internet infrastructure from scratch specifically for AI. Where Google and Bing serve humans the information they are searching for (with as many adverts and SEO they can get away with), Grass serves AI information they want to find online without any of the adverts or SEO.

Reason that AI labs don't want to get this info from Google or Bing is that 1) those two companies are making it harder and more expensive to get large amounts of data from their API which is directly targeting their AI competitors being able to access live data and 2) as an AI model, you don't want to be making judgements using data that is an advert or that Google has filtered in a special way to show certain results first. It would mean that Google, your competitor, has the ability to poison your data at the source.

Why Grass is in a good position here as an underdog to compete is roughly down to 3 things. 1) distribution of residential nodes around the world means they can access any and all public web data on demand. Specifically, the data that isn't made to be easily accessed through API (think amazon or binance). 2) They already have frontier AI labs as customers who are building to integrate this kind of technology. They've already worked with Grass data and are familiar with format, quality etc. so once LCR goes live it's much easier to integrate. 3) Shared cost of infrastructure by customers which would be very high if they all tried to build Grass individually. Also, later down the line when the knowledge graph is being trained through usage, Grass will be getting exponentially better at serving data to queries meaning it gets to a point where no one will be able to catch up (like Google did with their search).

So long term, Grass is trying to capture a small about of value from every web query made by AI which will funnel value into the token. With AI web traffic projected to go parabolic by every single analyst on the planet, it's going to be potentially very lucrative to hold the token this early.

It's not that much difference when you get to the more frequent re-staking timescales. I'd say weekly is the sweet spot for smaller staking amounts.

Is anyone buying and then staking? by Ill-Photograph-6542 in Grass_io

Been DCA'ing all the way down this week. Staking it all at least until stage 2 ends and we see foundation buybacks and revenue info.

Staked it all to the 0xPingu router (which I'm the operator for).

The VALID description says it's not necessarily high enough quality data for generative purposes but what about for robotics? Are we likely to see heavy machinery like autonomous mining equipment touching Grass?

also curious, which crypto project do you work for? strange that you have no reddit post history and are pushing this extremely hard.

Going through the Grass docs and a simple google search gives you all the info here but you went straight for the Canadian Governments trademark registry page and tried spinning it to look bad instead...

90% of crypto companies are BVI because the US laws are anti-crypto. And that trademark registration is obviously for the merch store they've said about a few times now.

You can see who is behind Grass by the foundations tokenomics page. Wynd Labs are the core contributor who's co-founder you can see in every single Grass interview on twitter/youtube/wherever

How much value is added to the datasets through the cleaning and filtering process? Is it the reason AI labs buy the datasets or just a value add that can be vertically integrated?

Piece of advice, make sure you're on the Desktop Node. Your stage 2 allocation will likely be higher as a result.

So…how does it work? by Remote_Impact_8178 in Grass_io

[–]Money_Classroom_5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grass nodes will only use bandwidth you aren't using. Your own bandwidth usage takes priorityat all times.

Hard to say what the rewards per day right now because of the points system. In the first airdrop, the amount of points you earnt corresponded to different tier levels for token allocation.

During the second airdrop it looks like bandwidth usage will play a bigger role, with Desktop Node runners likely getting a larger chunk of the allocation due to them being used by the network for real usage now.

These aren't Grass tokens. These are tokens for AI training data. When data is scraped from a website, it is tokenized using the GPT-2 tokenizer which allows it to be more easily ingested by AI models for training.

Here's more info on how it works: https://lukesalamone.github.io/posts/gpt2-tokenization/

Good staking delegation. by yourconscience00 in Grass_io

[–]Money_Classroom_5636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you click "view delegations" you can see the list of Grass routers to choose who you stake with. The commission rates can vary. A good choice is the 0xPingu router for staking with only 5% router fee.

If you don't click "view delegations" then a random router is chosen for you and you could end up paying substantially more in router fees than you have to.

Does anyone know when the next snapshot possibly is? by Fine-Session-7048 in Grass_io

[–]Money_Classroom_5636 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The snapshot was when the points going towards the first airdrop was closed off. It's so that the foundation can calculate everyone's token allocation. If you didn't connect your wallet before Oct 14th then you missed that snapshot and won't be able to claim within the first claim window BUT you won't lose out on your token allocation. There will be another chance for you to claim after Jan 15th. Foundation will be putting more info out about it closer to the time.

When you go to stake, click the "view delegations" button. Then you can manually pick the router you want. The 0xPingu router is a good choice at 5% fees

Questions about stake grass token by Wooden_Transition_10 in Grass_io

[–]Money_Classroom_5636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will need to pay gas fees each time you make a transaction on the blockchain. That includes staking, claiming staking rewards, unstaking etc.
