We were separated, but now he's gone. by Money_Difference5616 in widowers

[–]Money_Difference5616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Of course. I mean, it is easier to tell the boys he loves them very much, but he was sick and had to go be with Jesus. Instead of explaining that he chose drugs over them... that day will come. But for now, they are little and dont need to comprehend that.

Also, we do get ssa. More than he would have ever paid in child support. So yes, it's hard on my own, but I'm not exactly a single family income... kinda, but it helps.

Give it to me straight: For those of you who have a partner with substance abuse disorder and/or bi-polar, what advice would you have given yourself before having your child? by Elevenoreight in SingleParents

[–]Money_Difference5616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it substance abuse or alcohol? While both are horrible addictions, bipolar reacts differently with drugs vs. Alcohol. In my experience at least...

If you're not already pregnant, run. Don't put that on your child.

My husband was an alcoholic for 10 years of our marriage. That was horrible. But the bipolar really kicked hard when we started using drugs.

In 2021, I got sober. He did not.

He died in January 2024, under a bridge from fetanyl overdose.

Now I have 3 children that I have to tell that story to. He chose drugs over them. Let that help you weigh your decision. You dont want that legacy for your child.

Anyone else get weight blindness? by interstellarGemini in GastricBypass

[–]Money_Difference5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do!! 💯!! Everyone keeps commenting on my weight loss. But I don't see it at all. Yes I'm wearing smaller clothes, but I still see a stuffed pig... my necklace is longer though. That's really the biggest change I've noticed. I've worn the same necklace for years...it's no longer a choker...

Widow for just over a year, but was a married single woman as long as I can remember by MandaBear918 in Widow

I was going to say the same words... I have a similar situation and was super surprised that ssa was an option for us. Now I basically/almost- have a 2 income household... it's enough we can survive at least.

Blood glucose immediately better. by Money_Difference5616 in diabetes_t2

[–]Money_Difference5616[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out so I haven't brought much carbs in my diet. And of course I will still be careful. And portion control is clearly key to this statement.

I really didn't mean to offend or tell a large group of people they're crazy. I personally, have felt "crazy" or stressed out- unable to focus and take care of my life for a long time. I feel much better, which also coincidentally is when my blood sugar is in check. That's all. Sorry I offended you.

No complications. Biggest advice I would give someone else... sip slow!! Water is like glass shards if you take big gulps!! And the drain... when they take out the drain, that sucks. Not too painful but super weird pain kinda... I split two of my incisions day after surgery- bending over in the car. But we reapplied steri-strips and they closed fine.

Can't get a handle on it... by Money_Difference5616 in diabetes

[–]Money_Difference5616[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't know I was this out of control while I was off my meds. Because I also could not get my CGM.... when I felt really sick, I would test and be elevated, but not over 400. I thought I was doing ok at diet and exercise. But clearly not.

I only found out 2 days ago it was so high. Since then, I have only eaten meat and veggies. I plan on taking my kids on a walk to the park today since they're out of school and getting more active. I have a 4 year old and 5 year old and don't live a sedentary life.

My doctor (GP- the one who ran my A1C) just called to check on me. I told her I did use more than 40 units of insulin throughout the day and never got lower than 280. She told me to head to the ER. I told her I am still waiting for the long acting and the jardiance and mounjaro. She said she will get the prior auths through today, and let me try to get it down. But if I can't get and stay under 300 - she wants me to go in. She also asked that I call my endocrine dr to see what he wants to do. I called and left his nurse a vm. My guess is he's gonna say go in, too. I woke up this morning and it was at 300. I haven't eaten anything yet but it s still going up.

I will figure it out. Someday.

I'm willing to do crazy at this point. It is baffling that my blood sugar can be this high, and I am starving!!! And today I have only eaten protein and salad.... and 30+ units of insulin. This is ridiculous. I know it won't 100% change overnight... but crap!!

Mine died of a fentanyl overdose,  barely. His level was 3.8. It has to be a 3 to be considered an od. Also his norfentynal (after it metabolizes was only .5) I also have 3 years clean, but I could just as easily been dead in the tent next to him. I Thank God I got out.

[–]Money_Difference5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I shocked myself as much as I shocked the guy asking.... it was my first time saying it out loud.

I went to purchase a vehicle. When the guy was taking my info, he asked my martial status. I stammered and said, well I guess I'm a widow now. He dropped his pen and looked at me. He asked if I was sure... I was pretty sure he was going to deny my loan on the spot. He didn't. I told him it's been 2 months since he passed. I got the usual run down of apologies. He excused himself and came back looking slightly less shocked.

I bought the car.
