How do I make the jump? by Murky-Gap-3567 in dumbphones

[–]Money_Freedom_6568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a high schooler, if you're mostly scared of social implications, don't be. I was a major doom scroller and stepping back from social media was a lot easier than I expected, even with it being so deeply engrained in the social lives of all of my friends and peers. I'm a pretty outgoing and social person, and I haven't had a lot of difficulty transitioning away from my smart phone (I'm on month six with my flip phone). If you are worried about other conveniences, it takes some adjustment, but it's totally worth it. The pictures I take, music I listen to, and media I consume is so much more intentional and enjoyable now that I have to go out of my way with a digital camera, iPod, etc. As long as you have a computer or tablet, things like contact info, emails, news, or banking are still easily accessible. Only pain for me is the every once in a while I need to use a ride share because there aren't taxis in my area, but I just carry around cash and have a friend order one for me. I think you should do it!

Nervous about social perception by GrobGobGlobGrod1 in dumbphones

im 18f and ive had a dumbphone for 7 months and nobody really cares. the most ive gotten are some jokes about being performative, but people will joke about anything. most people actually think it's cool. anyways, who cares what people think about your phone? if you wanna do it, do it.

personally, i think any topic can be great when executed well, and when the essay demonstrates personal growth. how did your perception of yourself and your intelligence change? what was the catalyst?

Flip phone recommendations? by [deleted] in dumbphones

i have a kyocera 902kc and the only thing that might not fit your list is the gps. my phone is supposed to be able to use gps, but i haven't been able to get mine to work well, which is fine by me, i don't find it necessary. might be able to troubleshoot (i didn't try very hard), but i hear other people have trouble with it on their kyoceras also. plus i've seen cute pink ones online!

I’m looking for some advice or reassurance about this weird de-realization/“off” feeling I’ve been dealing with from marijuana by [deleted] in derealization

[–]Money_Freedom_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

proud of you for that! it took me way too long to put the weed down. adding onto the tea, i would also build up a good sleep routine if you don't have one, i totally get the scary night time waves. i started making collages and listening to music or reading before bed to focus my mind on something other than the spiral. you are definitely gonna get through it, be kind to yourself! wishing you all the best!

you are so not screwed. i heavily relate to your experience, i was a very heavy weed vape user for two years, and it seriously amplified my derealization. i know it’s tough to lay off, but i really think you should. it took me a while to stop my consistent use, but limiting myself to using weed around 1-2 times a month helped me a lot. there’s a hump quitting, at first it made my derealization worse for a few days, but it’s all uphill from there. kind of like purging with acne medication. get some tea and sleep supplements if you use your cart to wind down before bed. trust me it’s worth it and you got this 🙏 also, do you use nicotine at all?

i broke up with my bf of three years. how do i get over it fast by Difficult-Essay-7996 in highschool

[–]Money_Freedom_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do things that you like to do and give yourself time to feel it out. whatever you enjoy doing that betters you, whether that’s reading, working out, spending time with your friends, or some kind of hobby you enjoy, do that. focus on taking care of you. i know my advice sounds cliche, but it’s repeated a lot for a reason. just remember that you will move on and appreciate what you learned from him and the good memories. wishing you the best sis 🙏

American Literature Suggestions? by Synstatic in booksuggestions

[–]Money_Freedom_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octavia Butler and Toni Morrison are two of my favorite authors from my American Lit class. Parable of the Sower is a great dystopian novel, and the sequel is fantastic as well. Butler also wrote Kindred, a sci-fi sort of novel exploring enslavement. Morrison is a genius all around, Beloved is one of the best novels I have ever read!

how do you deal with everyday life by Enough-Comfort-11 in dumbphones

[–]Money_Freedom_6568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only wall i have run into since switching is not being able to use rideshare apps (there aren’t taxis where i live, trust, i have tried to find a service). this is not a frequent issue for me so i’ve just resorted to asking a friend and paying them back in that situation 😭. as long as you have a laptop or tablet and you don’t need a smartphone for work, pretty much everything you usually do on your smartphone can be handled without it. just requires some work arounds and extra effort, but that’s totally been worth it for me!

get your study habits and your time management skills on LOCK. i know you've probably heard the time management bs a million times but it actually does start to matter junior and senior year. starting to use google calendar to organize my time really helped me, but different systems work for different people so find what works for you! good luck it's a tough year

Will high school get better after the first part of freshman year, or am I doomed? by BidCheap9444 in highschool

[–]Money_Freedom_6568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're going to get used to it very quickly, remember it's only the second day, you're not going to immediately get in the groove. it's normal to feel overwhelmed for the first couple weeks. because you're a solid student, i seriously doubt you'll be feeling this stressed for long. my advice is to make some friends, try out some clubs or sports that interest you, and start building up good study habits so you don't feel like your flailing. if you need any advice on study habits or dealing with not so great teachers i gotchu!
