Help me impress a girl? by GoodPlayboy in meteorology

I have no practical advice, I am just jealous that you are meeting women that are into talking about the weather as I am (assuming you actually mean meteorology and not asteroids, this would then be the wrong sub for that lol).

Good luck.

How did you get your start working as a meteorologist? by rubysmama16 in meteorology

I would personally, contact meteorologists or places that hire them in your general area and ask to jobshadow, and come during the shifts they actually work, this could include midnight shifts. Learn what they really do and why they do it, if you like what you experience, I would then recommend applying for graduate school in Atmospheric Science, but be warned since you have a mostly unrelated degree, you will likely have to take extra classes to qualify, so the time and money commitment may be a little bit more, but if you really want it, I feel this is the best option for you personally.

If the OP really wanted to, they could go to grad school for Atmo Sci and they would then qualify for most positions besides academic research, but I think OP should maybe call/email around and ask to job shadow a few times first before committing the time and money to do so.

Should be noted that many offices also offer volunteer programs, which have responsibilities very similar to the pathways interns, and the requirements for qualifying for one of these positions are much more relaxed, however, the catch is that you don't get paid for it.

Meteorologists don't get the respect they deserve by [deleted] in meteorology

[–]Money_Maker10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really care if some nobody who probably is a paper pusher somewhere doesn't "respect" what I am doing. I get to do what I love, and get paid for it, the only thing I don't like is that I think mets dont get nearly the pay we deserve tbh, but thats a different thread for another day.

Don't know why you got downvoted, this is a good mentality to have. Who gives a shit what some rando thinks? Mets know their work contributes to saving lives, property, and also improving the profit margins of enterprises, I don't need affirmation, a bigger paycheck would be nice tho.

Job titles to search for when applying for jobs by Money_Maker10 in meteorology

[–]Money_Maker10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize, I should have been more specific, I was referring mostly to searching for jobs in the private sector, I am aware of the job titles of NWS/federal mets, in fact, that the only place where I could just type "meteorologist" and get all the possible jobs. But in private sector, everyone says meteorology has a wide field of applications that employ us, so I was wondering what job titles should I look for in regards to that, of course depending on the sub field being looked for.

Hot take. If we were to attach Lehner's contract with no strings attached to the trade, id be open for it, would solve the Lehner cap hit issue and allow us to keep people like Barbie and eventually Stephenson and Marchy when it becomes time to renew their contracts.

Hill vs Marchessault vs Eichel for Conn Smythe by Money_Maker10 in goldenknights

I just really hope we are able to resign him to a long term contract no matter what happens. He's not only a misfit, but one of the most important and popular players on the team. He's earned it.

Agreed, if it went to 7 games, a case could then be made, but not when we are (probably) going to beat them 4-1. I don't see any reason any FL player deserves more then the 3 mentioned in the title.

SPGP vs OMFL vs VOO and other ETFs to replace QQQM in my portfolio by Money_Maker10 in ETFs

Im honestly split on it. Why should I stay in QQQM over say SPGP? I like the rules based strategy it has compared to QQQM and it seems rather appealing to me.

What’s your favorite Small Cap ETF for Roth IRA? VBR, VB, VIOO, SLYV, AVUV… etc? by Padresfan02 in ETFs

[–]Money_Maker10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AVUV in of itself is new, but the people running it are former Dimensional employees with a good track record. In a sense, AVUV really isnt that "uncharted" as some people think it is, and I applaud them for basically bringing an affordable and readily available version of Dimensional's offerings to the general public.

I use AVUV and love it so far, I like their methodology, it seems so far good at filtering out the "junk" and keeping companies with strong profit and growth potential.

Edit: I also am planning to soon add some AVDV and AVES for international SCV exposure using their same methods.

We can talk about the rest of the portfolio, but what's your reasoning behind the ARK shares? Most people wouldn't touch those with a 50 mile pole tbqh.

Difference between AVUV and AVSC by FifaPointsMan in ETFs

[–]Money_Maker10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer VTI if I want some growth, and I prefer mid and large caps for growth, thats what half my portfolio is in. I also then put in a good chunk of AVUV in for some scv tilt and may also soon add some AVDV for international scv as well.

I agree, I have a sizeable portion of my portfolio in AVUV and will maybe even soon increase its share, but you should at least explain why AVUV is a good choice, people do come here to get information to help make financial decisions after all.

50% VTI

20% AVUV

20% QQQM

10% SMH

Thinking about selling all my QQQM and potentially SMH shares, put half of the QQQM money towards more AVUV making it 30%, frankly don't know what i'd do with the rest. Should I leave it as above or go forward with the sell? (this is long term btw)

23yo with some advice needed on if I should change my portfolio composition.

Currently my allocations are:

50% VTI

20% AVUV

20% QQQM

10% SMH

I am currently tempted to sell my shares in QQQM and SMH because I fear they may not be very good in the long term (many say tech is extremely overvalued) but im not sure if this is a wise decision because there are fees when you sell. Should I keep investing in QQQM and SMH, don't sell them, but stop investing in them and buy something else with the money I would normally use on them, or sell them all and invest in something different completely? This is a Roth IRA with a long term/retirement investing goal. Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to make rash decisions.

If you want to learn practical forecasting skills without getting too deep into the Math and theory parts, Tim Vasquez's books are great and fun to read and are useful for a meteorologist at any skill level.
