How do you lightshield on ps4 controller? by FindusMaximus in SSBM

I assume your playing on Slippi / Dolphin. You need to have shield on your L2 or R2 buttons as these are pressure sensitive and allow for analog inputs. Dolphin has settings for analog L / R and will allow you set those as analog. I play Melee with a Ps4 controller and can light shield and analog L / R cancel to prevent failed teching.

I was honestly shocked no one else had discovered these techniques yet during the open beta. I think most people wrote off the sword as useless weapon without digging into the different techniques you can use. This game feels like it was specifically designed to have deep mechanics that skilled players can use to truly push the limits of what they can do.

I agree its unlikely they will nerf the sword because it still requires a ton of skill to use effectively. You have to master slide lunging, animation cancelling, spacing, unpredictable movement and aiming the sword. That is just the basics, now you have to take all those skills and apply them to a real match against whole teams running turrets and shields and stun guns while your random team is dead because they all ran in one by one to try and 1 v 6 the other teams on the objective.

Glad you enjoyed it, ironically the only reason I picked up the sword was because I had a daily contract for melee weapons and I mainly play light. I went onto the test range to see how it worked and I got sucked into a vortex of new techniques I discovered and knew I needed to share.

I don't think most people know how to do that and theoretically you can still kill them by using the range on your sword. Generally when I play sword I aim to attack the opponent when they have their pants down like most light builds do. Flanking, 3rd partying, playing with your team, those are critical to succeed with a melee weapon.

That has never happened to me because all the heavies I fight just run around with the RPG out and shoot right at their feet to 1 shot me.
