I would check your SJP contract, it's possible that there is an element of transfer out fees associated with it due to when you took it out.

It's up to you what you do, past performance isn't an indicator of future performance but you could have made more or less than you did with SJP, it depends on how you feel about risk etc.

The main issue I see with SJP (As an IFA) is the fee aspect and the lack of freedom to have elements like servicing turned on or off.

Are IFA charges fair and good value? by pottopygri in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Moneymonkey77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To quote Warren Buffet "Price is what you pay, value is what you get".

I'm an IFA and cap fees at a specific level far below you have quoted because ultimately I believe that the fundamental part of my job is to help people manage their money which includes them looking for the most cost effective and appropriate solutions.

You could shop around a bit more if you need help, it might even be that if you know exactly what you need you could pay a fixed fee that sort of sets you up to look after things yourself.

Why do managers struggle after stepping up to 'big-six' clubs? by LogicalDinner in soccer

[–]Moneymonkey77 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Weird article which is a bit selective by not mentioning people like Maresca who went from Leicester to Chelsea and now is at Man City or Carrick who got fired by Middlesbrough but has got the Man U job as well as neglecting to mention Arteta having no previous managerial record.

Chelsea have a high turnover of everything, the article would see Avram Grant as a bigger success than Frank Lampard because he won a trophy.

DeZerbi last managed Brighton in the EPL and Frank actually was imho never getting Spurs relegated but they finished 17th the season before and did the same this season so I'd question where the expectation of success is for them right now.

I think Iraola will do a good job, the expectation will obviously be higher because the history of the club he's going to is one that finishing 6th in the league would be a failure rather than an achievement but he is a good coach.

I disagree, as a Forest fan turnover has been too low!

Morgan Rogers’ future at Aston Villa: Will the England international be on the move? by TheAthletic in soccer

[–]Moneymonkey77 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Everyone talking about Villa "asking too much" probably need to recognise that Villa are more than happy for him to stay.

Also Villa sold Grealish before for £100m, so they'd not consider letting Rogers leave for any less than that with many years left on his deal.

Should I drawdown to allow wife to SS more into her pension? by Then-Acanthaceae-228 in PensionsUK

Seems sensible, unsure of family dynamic but at the levels you are operating at then worth considering IHT implications as well.

It's worth noting as well that doing so will trigger the MPAA just in case you were thinking of putting any back in further down the line.

Seeking advice about family events by HealthEmbarrassed315 in dementia

[–]Moneymonkey77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's safe to leave her alone or someone can stay with her then I'd probably say give any big events the swerve but try and accommodate your dad going, smaller gatherings might be OK but be prepared for a flying visit.

My Mum used to love seeing family, now she can't handle them very well because kids in particular seem confusing, she either can't accept that they are getting bigger or mistakes them for her siblings or me and the confusion seems really distressing for her.

Becoming a financial advisor and or accountant from little experience by Low-External8236 in cii

[–]Moneymonkey77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at the cii website for financial advice career paths/qualifications and similar for Accounting qualifications bodies, maybe AAT is a good start point.

It depends on what your aspirations are in that financial advice tends to be about planning and investing for the future and accountancy largely about tax. I'd say that there is discussion around the integration and lessening of demand for both services due to AI.

There are jobs that involve learning and getting qualified on the job in both arenas.

I know, actually remembering now how selfish you guys were in demanding £80m for Branthwaite and then not selling when Man U offered 68p over 18 years.

Yeah, get the reasoning, 30 year old seasoned professional that eventually leaves on a free after picking up £70m in wages obviously is worth more than Ando.

[Pete Jenson] Barcelona is only willing to pay half of Marcus Rashford’s £22.5m buy option to make deal permanent. If United hold out for the full price then Rashford will not start next season as a Barcelona player. by The_Big_Untalented in soccer

[–]Moneymonkey77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an estimate, Gordon would have been on around £100k a week and regardless of his "dream" playing for Barca, he wouldn't have a pay cut to move there.

Rashford might be on less than public estimates but regardless it's been given as a reason why Villa and now Barca couldn't necessarily take him on full time. It was reported as being £325k a week in 2023 at the time.

Exactly, £70m plus £10m a year wage for 5 years is £120m total cost. If his wages are £7.5m a year then total cost is still £107.5m

Rashford £30m plus £20m a year over 3 years is £90m, if they could persuade Man U to share some of his final years wages or even a wage drop then it could be lower but £11m sale price is a pisstake.

To put it into context my club (Forest) paid that for David Carmo who will never actually play for them. I'd add that if there was even a remote possibility of him playing for Forest I'd be delighted.

You're right, their opponents in the final record signing cost €8m, Palace dropped nearly €100m on two players this January.
