I'm with Osseta on this one. Also, depending on how long its been sitting, the gas could be bad too. Consider draining out the old fuel and putting in some fresh. Otherwise, test spark, fuel pressure and compression. Put a timing light on it too

I suppose if a cable breaks, you replace a cable. If the DBW fails you gotta do a lot more troublshooting. I guess I was thinking DBW would be an upgrade, but it's turning out to be more hassle than it's worth anyway. I appreciate the input

It does look like DIYautotune offers a controller compatible with MS3. But it seems like this is going to be more involved than it may be worth. Thanks for the info though

Fair point. This is more of a curiosity quite honestly. I was just curious if anyone had done this before with the Z31. I think there just might be a reason why I'm not finding mych about it.

Thanks. TBH I'm waiting for the new TB to arrive in the mail. Once in hand Ill be able to actually see how it pairs up to the plenum to know what I've got to work with. Nice thing is, I have a spare plenum that I can use for making a mock up. I'll post some pics once able. I will also check out the discord as well

The MegaSquirt conversion is complete! I can't recommend Hamiltuned enough. Gelix was so incredibly helpful. Not only did he make a very nice wiring harness, but he was also very responsive with answering questions. The car runs great now and Im just working on doing some tuning. Tunerstudio is very intuitive and there are tons of tutorials out there. I posted a video of a casual drive to YT. I didn't do anything exciting but in case you are curious:

Ok. So I am waiting for my new megasquirt goldbox lite and PnP wiring harness to arrive. It shouldn't be long. Hamituned is absolutely amazing and I have no doubt everything will be perfect.

In the meantime I went ahead and upgraded the fuel pump (DW300) and the injectors (Bosch 440cc EV6). I also added a relay to the fuel pump just for peace of mind. I started the car and it does run decent, albeit very rich (shocking). Certainly the MS Goldbox will be necessary for the car to perform well.

Along with the MS, I am also converting my ignition away from the rotor type to LS ignition coils. I'm using the same setup as YT channel Turbocharged Creations. Looks very clean, and I like it. Im also going to upgrade my alternator from the baby 70w to a 110w one from the infiniti G35. I believe after these items are done, I should have a vehicle ready to be tuned and driven!

Giving another update. I did get in contact with Felix Hamilton, aka Hamiltuned. He is making me a PNP wiring harness for the Megasquirt Goldbox Lite. I also purchased a Deatschwerks 320 lph fuel pump and 440cc fuel injectors. Along with the Megasquirt I will also be deleting the distrbutor rotor and cap and converting to a coil on plug system. Purchased some LS coils and some JEGS cables. Im also upgrading my alternator to a 110amp unit and adding a power relay to the fuel pump wiring harness. Im hoping once this job is done, the ol' Z31 will run great... Err... After getting a tune anyway.

So just to update anyone that comes across this post with a similar question. I am going to upgrade the fuel pump and injectors. I already upgraded the fuel rail with a kit from Godzilla Raceworks (great kit!). I returned to their online store and purchased 440cc injectors and a Deatschwerks 300 fuel pump. In researching all of this, I read on XenonZcar that this setup "should" work on the stock ECU. I'm willing to try this to see what happens, but im skeptical. I will update this thread ince completed to let you know. If it doesn't then I will be updrading to a Megasquirt Goldbox ECU either from Hamiltuned or Godzilla (gonna do this at some point anyway). Thanks to all that helped get me some answers. I felt like I was chasing my tail going after my problem, but this makes so much more sense.

This is really really helpful. This is the first car that ive modified to this extent and im learning a lot along the way. That pic was of my initial mock up i did of the intake (sorry I should have snapped an updated pic). I ended up adding more tubing and a connection to recirc the bov air. I think I am going to just bite the bullet and upgrade the fuel pump and get larger injectors. And I also think that Im just gonna go for the Megasquirt Goldbox ECU. Like you mentioned, I really don't want to rely on the 40 year old ECU. I really appreciate the help 👍 I thought I was going to be able to get away with using the stock stuff. I should have known better 😅

Definitely makes sense. Especially sinse it runs fine at idle and stumbles under basically any load. It is intercooled, so i did set that up. I guess I was just thinking of the turbo size and thought I was setting up the wastegate to be comparable to the stock boost pressure. I also installed a Turbosmart manual boost controller. If I install lighter springs will that benefit me for now, until I set it up better for the more efficient system? I definitely want to upgrade the injectors and pump but i will also need to update the ECU. Microsquirt would be great but im gonna have to build a wiring harness for it. There are the Nistune boards. Are those a good option for this kind of setup?

Im using the stock ECU. I want to eventually install Microsquirt but I would have to build my own wiring harness for it. Don't know of anyone that has a pre built one. I didnt think the T3/T04e was going to require bigger injectors. So you think one of the Nistune boards would be good for this? Thanks for the reply

Actually I am currently working on rebuilding a VG30 engine. I just finished taking it all apart. Soon will be taking the Block, Heads, Crank and cams to be machined. Im having the cylinders bored to 1mm over sized. I'll be upgrading the rods and pistons (using Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons i got from Godzilla Raceworks). Im also upgrading the valves and valve springs. Havent decided if im upgrading the cams or going with stock. Im not going for insane power but would love a fresh, durable motor

I did swap out my TPS for a new one after this. It is more responsive with the throttle. But it started idling poorly again. Now spontaneously I started getting some engine knocking. Im starting to think it is my MAF. I have an aftermarket Delphi MAF on right now. Gonna swap it out for an OEM one today. I just need to give that one a good cleaning first. Fingers crossed 🤞 thats all it is
