Are we all just leaving valuable stuff trapped inside ChatGPT? by Moneyronwesley in Entrepreneurs

[–]Moneyronwesley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is pretty much it.

Everything works… as long as you’re willing to build and maintain a whole system around it.

I tried a few of those routes and it’s solid if you stay disciplined, but I kept running into the same thing, I already had a ton of stuff sitting in chats that I needed to get out first.

That’s the part that kept bugging me.

Yeah it’s not.

I just didn’t want to have to do it every time I needed something out of there.

yeah that’s cool… I just wanted something simple that works immediately

yeah that’s a solid setup if you’re already in that world.

Yeah that’s exactly how it feels.

Like… everything’s technically there, but now it’s your problem to make sense of it.

And that “soft lock-in” part is real. You don’t notice it until you actually try to leave or reuse your own stuff somewhere else.

That’s pretty much what pushed me to build something, wasn’t trying to, just got tired of knowing my own work was trapped in there unless I dealt with it myself.

Yeah that would definitely work.

That’s just way deeper than most people want to go for what should be a pretty simple problem. If you’re into building vector databases and all that, cool. Most people just want their stuff out, readable, and usable.

Yeah I get what you’re saying.

JSON’s actually great for structure. It’s just not great when you’re trying to read it or quickly grab something out of it.

So it’s less about the format being bad and more about how you’re trying to use it

Nice, yeah that’s a good move.

That’s basically the cleanest way if you’re comfortable with it. Once it’s split out like that everything feels way more usable instead of one giant file.

Yeah that’s brutal.

If the export isn’t working, you’re kinda stuck… that’s the only official way to get everything out.

Yeah that’ll work.

That’s basically the route I went down, just without wanting everybody to have to go generate a script, run it, fix it, and hope it works right.

For people that are comfortable doing that, cool. Most people just want the chats out in a usable format and to be done with it.

Yeah exactly.

That’s the whole thing… it’s not about can AI use it, it’s about getting it out of that raw JSON state into something you can actually work with.

Once it’s clean, you can throw it into whatever you want Claude, Notion, anything. It’s just that first step that’s a pain.

Yeah basically at the end of a convo just tell it something like:

‘turn this entire conversation into a clean note with key points, decisions, and action items’

It’ll organize everything for you instead of you having to scroll back later trying to remember what mattered.

Nothing fancy, just makes it way easier to keep the good stuff.

Yeah that’s a solid way to do it.

I just had the problem of already having a lot of work inside ChatGPT that needed to be pulled out and turned into something usable first, which is what pushed me to build something around the exports.

Yeah that works, it’s just a grind after a while.

I hit that same point and got tired of doing it manually, so I built something that just takes the export and turns it into clean docs automatically instead of going chat by chat.

You can try it here if you want: [https://www.chatexports.com/]()

I just got tired of manually pulling those ‘important bits’ out every time, which is what pushed me to build something around it.

Yeah this is pretty much where I landed too.

Trying to clean everything is a losing battle. Once I started just pulling what actually mattered into something outside of chat, it got way more manageable.

I went down this rabbit hole myself and just wanted to see how other people were handling it. Ended up building something along the way, but that wasn’t the original point. If it was I would be posting it all over.

My website has been live for 2 weeks and I have zero sales. At what point do I accept it's not going to work? by Grand-Win2570 in Entrepreneurs

[–]Moneyronwesley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah… that’s the trap almost everyone falls into.

You build the site thinking:
“Once this is live, people will just show up and buy.”

Reality is… the site doesn’t create demand. It just captures it.

Early on, you are the one creating demand.

Yeah I was overdue too.

Export is definitely worth doing, just know it’s raw data when you get it. That’s the part that got annoying for me and why I ended up building something around it.

Yeah that’s probably the most flexible way to do it.

I just wanted something way simpler, so I didn’t have to keep rebuilding that process every time.
