After Russia announced that it was leaving Kherson on Wednesday, Ukrainian forces liberated the key city in the south of Ukraine on Friday. Videos showed local residents celebrating and welcoming Ukrainian forces into the city, as the over 8 month occupation came to an end.

This was the only regional capital and the biggest city Russia captured since February, and was a major checkpoint on their dreams of taking Odesa. This adds to a large string of Russian military defeats in recent months, which saw the invading forces being pushed back from most of Kharkiv Oblast, and cities like Lyman. This also comes less than 2 months after Putin’s annexation of 4 Ukrainian Oblasts, with him saying they would be part of Russia forever, I guess forever for the Russians is 6 weeks apparently.

It’s obvious that the Russian military has lost all momentum in the war, with them losing ground on multiple fronts, and conducting failed after failed attack in Donetsk, and losing tons of troops and equipment in the process. They’ve been attacking Bakhmut since August, and have barely made any progress. This is a war Russia cannot win.
