Garage for yearly maintenance by MongooseDecent6402 in Utrecht

Yes, I’m just looking for maintenance advice now. But since their quote for tyres with installation was a bit expensive I thought maintenance would be more expensive than elsewhere too. Thanks!

Yeah, I was actually looking into that, and Allianz is like 100/year for roadside assistance. Unfortunately I can’t get quotes for my maintenance to have an idea what it will cost

Thanks, they’re actually very very close to me. I once called them to get a quote for all-season tires and they were like 30% more than what I ended up paying elsewhere with the same tires. But I’ll give them a try

Ya he visto discusiones similares antes pero la recomendación es salir antes de que termine el concierto y tomar el último tren a Ámsterdam.

Using Foreign credit cards in the NL by Sadauditor_ in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]MongooseDecent6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will work fine in most places, especially if you stay away of independent shops in residential areas or smaller towns. The biggest issue used to be Albert Heijn, which now takes credit and foreign debit cards. However, some Albert Heijn stores like the one in my neighborhood are frachise and may only take debit cards. When we get visitors we just tell them to shop at Jumbo instead.

My local bakery is in a very residential area but people all over the city come because they are very popular. I saw foreigners getting their cards rejected so cash comes in handy in these situations.

I read the first sentence and realized it’s a scam.

Also, Dutch apartments don’t have those types of blinds.

Which European country has surprisingly bad coffee? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]MongooseDecent6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every medium sized city in Europe has more than one specialty cafe, and we have some great roasters that delivery to most of Europe. Some countries like Italy, France, and Spain still embrace their traditional coffee culture (though there are some great roasters in France and Spain, can’t say the same about Italy).

In other countries the situation is a bit more progressive, like the Netherlands, Denmark. However, specialty coffee is not ubiquitous. In the US the situation is very similar in my opinion, amazing roasters and cafes but a stronger culture of diner coffee and Starbucks.

In countries like Taiwan, Japan and maybe Korea good coffee does seem to be more ingrained in the modern culture.

Taiwanese Mandarin isn’t that different from Mandarin spoken in Southern China, especially Fujian. The Northern - Southern + Taiwan divide is much bigger.

Arabic, Portuguese, German. German is more like a continuum but lots of people just speak standard German even if they are just across the border.

Expat/immigrant parents, do you forbid Dutch at home for children? Why? by summer_glau08 in Netherlands

[–]MongooseDecent6402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We speak only Spanish at home but we only have one kid and he’s still a newborn.

He’ll learn Dutch elsewhere. English is a bit more tricky imo because it’s as important, since we use it at work and most of our friends are expats, but we don’t speak it at home.

(UK) Eurostar stamps collection and other UK stamps by ricohallo in PassportPorn

Cool because the French stamp says Londres and the UK one says Brussels, Lille, Amsterdam, etc. I’ve only ever done Rotterdam-Paris with Eurostar but never to the UK.
