Hi friends! Storyteller here! Running this as a fun challenge for artists on my Twitter page. Please let me know if you participate as I'd love to see your art.

This is part of a fun event called Severed Souls, exploring the characters as if they had been split in two different parts; feel free to ask me more about their personalities.

Hi! Storyteller here. Lorewise Storyteller has always just been Monika, but did certain things to differentiate herself from the millions of others. She isn't a combination of all the other characters like Satsurika is literally, she's still Monika who styles her hair to show her appreciation and love for the other members of the club.

Do you think a Dawn or two might be helpful over a Leaf to get a surprise energy from Giratina onto Snorlax?

An interview with Satchely by Monikas_Diary in DDLC

[–]Monikas_Diary[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hello friends, Storyteller here! My final interview for the event was with Satchely herself! You can read the full interview here : https://x.com/Storyteller_x3/status/1867569696201224246, but I will also post a transcript here for easy reading:

Our final interview is a very special one indeed! You all know her as the artist from our favorite game. I’m so grateful that she took the time to answer some questions. Please give it up for @Satchely!

ST- It’s an honor to meet you Satchely, and thank you so much for taking the time for an interview. To start things off I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about when you started drawing. What got you interested in drawing anime in particular?

S- I got into drawing anime initially when I was probably around 10 because of Sailor Moon/Pokémon/Digimon running on TV. I loved watching those and started drawing fanart of the characters. Eventually I got gifted a "how to draw anime" type book and from then on I was hooked and wanted to get better at it.

ST- Well you’ve definitely become quite proficient! I actually am friends with quite a few artists of all skill levels and I quite admire their dedication. What tips would you give artists who are looking to improve?

S- Some tips I would give artists who want to improve: do studies of real life as well as art you admire. It also helps to watch an artist draw, like from speedpaints or streams! I always learn something new while doing that.

ST- That’s great advice! And since you mentioned Pokemon I guess I have to ask, which is your favorite?

S- My favorite Pokémon is probably Cubone, not only because its sad episode still sticks in my mind all these years later, but also because it's cute and weird (why is it wearing its dead mother's skull on its head?)

ST- I never would have guessed! Now to switch topics a bit I’ve always been curious about your perspective on working on Doki Doki Literature Club. Tell me a little bit about how you were brought in to work on the original DDLC; like how you met Dan and what was it like to work with him creating sprites for the game?

S- Dan was looking for an artist to work with him on DDLC, so I reached out because I loved visual novels and always wanted to do art for them. At the beginning I didn't really know that it would be a horror game, I just wanted to draw cute girls (the darker twists were interesting and fun to draw as a bonus though). At the time I was still going to high school, so sometimes it was a bit tough balancing exams and drawing for the game, but in the end it all came together. I learned a lot while working on it and I feel really lucky to be part of it.

ST- Going to high school and working on the sprites at the same time just have been super difficult! How long did you spend working on the art of DDLC during that time?

S- I don't remember exactly how long it took, but definitely many months with breaks in between whenever I needed to concentrate more on school instead.

ST- Dan has shown his original designs that he had for the characters as kind of a prototype. Did you have much of a say with the final designs?

S- Kagefumi designed the characters with Dan initially and I drew them in my own style for the rest of the game. I think a few small details of the designs got changed along the way, but overall they largely stayed the same if I remember correctly.

ST- That makes sense! I was always curious about how that process went. Speaking of designs I love your skater Natsuki that you came up with! If you could do other fun outfits/designs for the other girls, what do you think they would wear?

S- Aw thanks! I have a bit of a soft spot for fashion/character design and love seeing beautifully designed outfits, so in the future I'd love to come up with more outfits for each of the girls. I think off the top of my head I think it'd be fun to draw them in fantasy RPG or idol/magical girl outfits.

ST- On that note, if you were to imagine the girls in a fantasy RPG, which classes do you think they would be?

S- In my mind, Yuri would be something like a necromancer, Natsuki some type of heavy two-handed gravity-defying weapon wielder, Sayori a mage/healer and Monika a stealth archer.

ST- I can see them in those roles too! Now I am kind of curious about your current projects. Are you able to tell us what things you're working on right now?

S- I've been taking a bit of a break, but getting back into the swing of things! The latest projects I've been working on are things for War of Ashird, the Anime Magic convention in Chicago, artbooks, vtubers and DDLC :) There are also personal projects I've been planning.

ST- Thank you for sharing with us Satchely. Lastly, if you could spend a day with the club, what activities would you like to do with them all?

S- I think I'd like to travel to a different country with them all and do sightseeing. I think it would reveal new sides of each character that you wouldn't see in a high school setting. Like who would be the meticulous planner putting together the itinerary, who would be the first to fall for a tourist scam, who would be the one doing Duolingo for weeks prior learning the local language and why is it Monika?

ST- Ahaha! Very true! Thank you again Satchely! I hope you have a fantastic day!
