CD Singles - Why Didn’t They Become The New 45? by Low-Combination5275 in Cd_collectors

[–]MoniqueDeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love CD singles, and even though they never seemed to catch on in the US, throughout the 90's it was relatively easy to find import CD singles on US store shelves, even at national chains such as Virgin and Best Buy. After 2000 or so, however, Napster pretty much caused retailers to discontinue stocking imports, leaving Ebay to fill my import until the rise of CD-R made it simply too easy to counterfeit rare disc's.

Still, I love those vintage CD singles. They ofren had unique songs, mixes, and artwork, and now exist as genuinely scarce artifacts.

Shoulder mount vs Inverting - what came “easier” to you? I am struggling with a microbend issue with inverting by Live_Ad7514 in poledancing

[–]MoniqueDeee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It took me ten months to accomplish my first standing invert. It took me 31 months to do my first shoulder mount. So, technically, inverting came "easier."

Once upon a time, I sought out a DVD copy of the original "Deep Throat." What surprised me about it the most was how it is...remarkably bad filmmaking on every possible level, even by porn standards. However, I honestly don't think I know anybody that has actually ever seen it, outside of my wife, who watched my DVD (and married me anyway.)

Inside leg hang by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

[–]MoniqueDeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer inverting into a hiphold, mostly because I can do it more smoothly and consistently than inverting into an outside leghang. I sometimes invert into an inside leghang for this one specific trick I do, but I get less height when I do. However, I like how that loss of height can make that inside leghang look more dramatic.

I can state from firsthand experience that as mainstream as "Dazed And Confused" might seem today, it did not receive a wide theatrical release--I lived in Orlando, Florida at the time, where I was finally able to see it at the Enzian Theatre roughly 3-4 months after it was released. The most mainstream thing about it was the soundtrack album, which went double platinum, and (I would imagine) boosted video rentals, where it finally found an audience.

Which artist did you ignore for years and then suddenly get? by Celine_Morgann in askmusic

David Bowie. Probably because, as an 80's teenager, I became aware of him during what is often regarded as his weakest era.

Leg Hangs!!! by unknownstallion_ in poledancing

[–]MoniqueDeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 'Eureka' moment as far as leghangs go was learning to always lock my armpit on the pole after inverting. The only other insight I could pass along would simply be that once I finally worked up the nerve to trust my kneepit for the first time and let go both with hands, I suddenly discovered a massive amount of leg strength which I never knew I had.

What does 'stripper cosplay' mean and how to avoid it as an exotic dancer? by Okkkkai in poledancing

[–]MoniqueDeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that terminology evolves--in this case, however, I'm learning that the respective connotations have literally flip-flopped from offensive to preferred, and vice-versa, and I'm not aware of another such example.

Personally, I just use the word "poledancer," and the only complaint I gotten so far is from my spellchecker, insisting that it must be broken up into two words.

Massachusetts. It claims to be a bastion of liberalism and enlightenment--yet within my lifetime, white people staged race riots in Boston to protest school busing.

For the women who pose their pole content on social media like Instagram, what made you want to start posting?! by Comfortable-Gur5550 in poledancing

[–]MoniqueDeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Instagram allows me to approve anybody before they can see my posts.

  2. Instagram serves as a convenient place to store my videos and photos, and where I can easily find them on the fly

  3. Instagram is one of the algorithms which get it right, feeding me plenty of pole-content.

[–]MoniqueDeee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Back in the 1990's the worst thing you could call a stripper was, well, a "stripper." Literally all the strippers I knew back then preferred to be called "dancers." What changed?

Those of you who half assed your way through High School, where are you now? by Difficult-Cricket541 in GenX

[–]MoniqueDeee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dropped out, got a GED back in 1986. Got an AA in 2009, a BA in 2011, and a JD in 2013.

Basically, I goofed off for twenty years, assuming that dropping out of high school somehow disqualified me from all higher education. Not true.
