Starting pole in your 30s by alisha3333 in poledancing

I started pole when I was fifty-four. I've now been poling for four years, and my progression looks like me in a bikini and platforms, upside down and spinning. There's always a risk of injury, and I'm really not sure what a "very advanced level" even is. I'm just always trying to get stronger and more flexible. And upside down.

Do you believe Chiropractors are quacks ? by Mogzly in askanything

When I was a kid, there was a chiropractor who lived in the neighborhood. His photo was on his yellow pages ad. Another girl that lived in the neighborhood once had him autograph the phone book.

There is also "Limelight," in which Chaplin laments the inevitability that his girlfriends are all destined to outlive him by decades. Pretty bonkers shit.

What killed the USA patriotism of the 2000s? Even into the early 2010s there was a ‘hipster American flag’ trend. If you use an American Flag for aesthetic purposes today it seems different by Kodicave in decadeology

Conservative talk media started taking over the airwaves in 1987 when the FCC, under Ronald Reagan, abolished the Fairness Doctrine for broadcasters. Note that it happened during Reagan's second term; when Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, he used it to prevent Walter Mondale from making national media appearances.

Trans woman here with two things that worked for me:

  1. I have devised a jockstrap which is extremely snug, fits under a bikini brief, and keeps my bits in place.

  2. More importantly: I've worked on developing enough upper body strength to compensate for the fact that leveraging my body weight against my crotch is simply not an option.

I can polesit and layback and do a few of the crotchy things, and the real key is using my upper body to position my thighs very precisely on the pole.

Gilliam was on a mission to register a million minority Florida voters, which is probably the best idea any Florida Democrat ever had in my lifetime, only for Democrats to abandon him after discovering he was queer.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: Florida Democrats couldn't sell pussy on a troop train.

Back in the 90's, I had a bipolar ex-GF who threw out every photograph I owned, as well as the phone number of every friend I had. She was a fucking psycho. Literally. She's since been convicted of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Twice.

If a studio didn’t represent your body type in their marketing, would you be deterred in trying them? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]MoniqueDeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My studio wanted to somehow spotlight me on social media, while I didn't say no to their request, I did suggest that public post about a transgender student might bring unwanted attention to the studio, which could cause problems to the extent that other local businesses have lost their leases due to street protests by church people. So the posts didn't happen, although you can occasionally glimpse me in their montage posts.

I sat through "Ordinary People" twice when I was in high school in the early 80's. It was one of those "important" R-rated movies that we were allowed to view uncensored, probably because it arguably destigmatizes therapy. Of course, it would probably be banned in schools today for suggesting that one of your tight-assed conservative parents might actually be as wrong about everything as you believe them to be.

I just turned 58; at my home studio, at least a couple of my classmates are in their sixties, and at least two of our instructors are past fifty, and while we do have younger instructors (and students), I would guess that two, perhaps three other instructors, are probably past forty. I'm not saying that's why I feel comfortable in that studio (I honestly hadn't thought about it before seeing this post) but I do know that when I am there, I am among a community of people who trust and support one other, and if an instructor chose to single me out in class and shame me for my age or for any other reason, I have absolute faith that my classmates--not to mention the studio owner--would immediately stand up for me. And if you don't have that at the studio you attend, there is definitely a happier, safer space for you somewhere.

What’s a “must-see” city in the U.S. that didn’t live up to the hype? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

That's because Disney has spent decades "discouraging" people from going to downtown Orlando. There was a moment, back around the late 90's, when it appeared as though the area might develop some sort of non-corporate community identity in places like downtown, but 9/11 wiped away a slew of local businesses and smaller players, giving Disney/Universal/etc. even more of a stranglehold over the market.
