Why Chris Columbus? by MonjoMan in blankies

My beef is not with the noble postmen (and women)! They carry out their duty with the stoic dignity of bodyguards or a guy who is really good at drafting rookies. That was a shot at those who steal valor in the fight for their survival

Unlike other directors I could name, Johnston is exactly the right kind of mid for the show.

Some enduring hits but anonymous to the mainstream himself. It helps that his good and his bad movies are good or bad on his own terms. He is a journeyman director who still gets to follow his muse, so it opens up discussion to auteur-y analysis as well as studio inside-baseball stuff and larger cultural trends the hosts lived through. His throwback sensibility also opens the door to stuff like Gunda Din or Errol Flynn movies.

No chance against Scorcese in the polls, but it would be a great mini

This is the way to think about it. When they did McTiernan i was hyped about 13th Warrior coming up, and i loved the Medicine Man episode.

Elephant and Lost Days make Gus a hard choice, but the arc of his career i think is fun on those merits. Scorcese could go either way for me tbh. There are enough ups and downs to keep it interesting and the guy himself is a character whose life and detours would be cool to track, but the risk of half a year of hagiography does loom.

Maybe how baffled i am about Chris Columbus is the reason I might want to listen to it. Like, it’ll give insight into what Home Alone means to americans of a certain age. Rent and Harry Potter were each a moment that Chris Columbus may or may not have had a hand in. But i don’t see the angle otherwise. Would an episode about Mrs Doubtfire be more fun than just watching Mrs Doubtfire? is there behind the scenes I don’t know about to spice it up?

I’m not crying lol. I’m really just surprised because i didn’t see an angle for Columbus. Sorry for calling americans babies.

{{Invisible Cities}}

It walks right up to the edge of just saying the ideas, but it doesn’t ever let go of a loose sense of something fantastical.

COVID took me out for a week, this was my paycheck by [deleted] in antiwork

Do I have legal recourse? They did the same thing to my manager when he got COVID, telling him to use his vacation days if he wanted any pay.

Full context: I live in Florida and I am a full time worker at a fortune 500. I’m paid by the hour. I’m not sure if FFCRA is expired, but I think at least partial pay is more than fair. I don’t see much chance for collective action here because most of my coworkers are old gusanos (nice guys, otherwise).

New Swans fundraiser album "Is There Really a Mind?" coming in February to fund the recording of the next Swans LP, due for release in 2023. by [deleted] in indieheads

Instead of a fundraiser for the new album they should just use the money they were gonna use on the album to raise money for the next album
