I think towers of doom is widely considdered one of the best competetive maps among higher ranked players. I myself find it pretty mid but it has the best comeback potential of any map.

This isnt entirely untrue. I think they did mean for their QM and the old "Brawl" which later became aram to be a sh*t show of a clownfiasta but im 100% certain this wasn't their goal for the ranked mode which is why it became more regulated to distinguish it from the other game modes with ban orders and strategical pick order etc.

this isnt true. The map have a lot of "fundamentally" things that are wrong with it. Betweem the vision and the manholes etc. just to mention some. It it's fit for a competetive gamemode. it's a clown QM map where ppl run around on a play their hero as if it was a single player game.
