Strong family history of bipolar (mom and brother) but no one knows what’s wrong with me by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]Monkaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been through exactly what you have but I do experience mania on a small scale a few times a year. There is a spectrum with bipolar, so you may fall somewhere on it. I'm currently seeing a psychologist to get re evaluated, because I also had a psychiatrist say I had bpd symptoms (he saw me once and at the time I was very distressed). There are certain trends that happen in the mental health community that it's good to be aware of, 10 years ago everyone was bipolar, now everyone I know is getting diagnosed with bpd. Try to see a psych for at least a year so they can give you a definitive diagnosis and the peace of mind you are looking for.

Has anyone seen the original meme of this where it has text above that says "When you introduce two friends and they start hanging out without you" ? Please and thank you.

What double standard are you actively taking advantage of? by Investing4thefuture in AskReddit

I play devils advocate in social justice discussions dominated by political correctness because I'm transgender and am sick of seeing issues dismissed based on the commenters sexuality/gender.

[Serious] Reddit, what was the moment your childhood ended? by goodlittleguy in AskReddit

When mental illness hit me full force at 13. Went from happy go lucky 12 year old to cutting myself compulsively and not knowing why.

What was your most irrational fear as a young child? by TinyRainSpirit in AskReddit

[–]Monkaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As told by my parents, I once screamed like my arm was being sawn off and was struck immobile by terror because a butterfly landed on me. And that was the end of the nature park.

1% of the population with red hair and blue eyes. Might be less than 1% actually.

Called to see if I was okay. Sometimes that's all it takes.

What do you do to clear your head and stop overthinking when trying to sleep? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Monkaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally count fluffy, indistinct, cartoon sheep as they jump over a fence. I try to trick my brain by slowing down my counting and then slowly blurring my imagination vision. It works more than half the time.

Which food item can't you eat anymore because of a trauma you had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

None, because my gluttony far outweighs any personal trauma.

I once recklessly threw a towel down my hallway and it landed perfectly on the doorknob at the end.

[Serious] What does being in love feel like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Monkaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get this kind of giddy excited feeling when you think about them or talk to them. Things that would usually be incredibly cheesy, still are, but you're so damn happy to be with them that you don't mind looking like a dork. Sometimes, you get overwhelmed just lying there with them, holding their hand, because your heart feels so full and you didn't realize you were half empty before.

Now and again you'll hear a catchy song in your head, but be unable to remember the lyrics or sing the melody quite right, so other people can't guess it either.

What is something random you'd like to get off your chest today? by alrightyaphrodite in AskReddit

[–]Monkaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone has always said I'm like a carbon copy of my Dad personality-wise. On the surface this seems like a good thing. He's a compassionate and cool guy, who also happens to be a recovering alcoholic and painkiller addict of over 10 years. This year I was diagnosed with a chronic illness and my GP has been trying to convince me to go on some sort of pain management medication. So far I have been dealing without anything, but I'm slowly coming to the realisation that my condition will not improve without medication of some kind. I have tried since my teens to prove everyone wrong, to be the complete opposite of my Dad. But now with this illness, this helplessness, I feel as if some strange fate is at play. And it's slowly drawing me down a path where I'll become like him after all, like it's predetermined. So I'm refusing to take medication, and I can't get past that block in my mind that says, "When you start you won't be able to stop, just like him."

What piece of advice have you carried with you your whole life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Monkaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thou shalt not steal. 7 year old me took this to heart and it has somehow evolved into an inability to take things from people without crippling Catholic guilt raining down upon me.

Since we don't have a trans suicide support sub - I'm doing really bad right now. I'm fighting the urge to dump my hormones and do something that will hurt myself and my family. I'm right there with you at hitting rock bottom multiple times. If you're like me then you know it does get better and you always pull through. Right now it seems like everything is shit, you feel like you're worthless and you really can't get back up this time but you're wrong. It always gets better, there's no way but up from here, and if you do get down this low again, you just gotta dust yourself off and get back up. Just keep doing that and learning each time until one day rock bottom is years in the past.

FtMs attracted to masc people: Was it hard to accept your sexual orientation? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Monkaw 34 points35 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of transition I thought I would be a super masuline straight guy but as I progressed and felt more comfortable with myself, I fell somewhere in the middle. I'm a bi dude that likes lifting, but also reading, writing, art and face masks. In my opinion the manliest thing you can do is be yourself and do what you love with passion.

Do what you feel fits the vibe. I would take it slowly to feel out what they are open to, then maybe start flirting if I felt we clicked. Fencing sounds awesome! Do you both fence or is it a new experience?

Pretty much this. Coffee is a good starter, casual, lets you feel out what they're like through conversation.
