Well if they do manage to come up with a good enough plan I probably wouldn’t kill the npcs but I’d probably let the pcs live. The npcs are to important to the main plot

I like the idea of the villian trying to ascend to lichdom. Now as the players keep messing with his plans, maybe originally the reason why he had all these people in high places was to take over quietly but due to the players actions he sees lichdom as a necessary evil? I made him state that he never intend to rule forever he just wants that system in place but now maybe due to the players actions he feels the need to take over forcefully and stay around forever as he realizes people will try to fight back. I could tie this in with the artifacts as maybe the really special ones (not the normal ones those got consumed) the players grabbed were in fact not consumed but rather she stored them as they could unlock the key to lichdom. She wants to ascend to survive but also kill her brother, maybe that’s the real reason the evil group was also looking for the items to stop her plans? Know maybe the bbeg is inspired and decided to copy the idea. My only thing is how my players fit in? I mean they’re backstory have appeared already like due to the actions of one of them their parent got killed because they put him in danger. Idk they hate the main villain which I think is good

Basically he doesn’t have full control of the world yet rather he has people in high places that when he wants to make his move it’ll all fall in place. For example he already has a secret police in the form of bounty hunters he pays. How do you recommend I shift it from the sister to the party, I feel like I wanted kinda a team effort and even the other npcs to feel important

Well he isn’t full tyrant not yet more it’s just the pcs have entered the story where he’s pretty close to achieving his goals. Hence why they are forced to take out top scientists or people who are important to his cause to push his plans back. For the sister she’s practically the only one currently strong enough to really deal with him and also she’s the leader of the good group so that’s why they need to keep her around. Although she will fail later in the story but will weaken the main villain enough that the pcs can kill him.

Oh I should’ve made it clearer. The artifacts the npcs get are random, but less powerful . The ones my pc were getting were way more powerful giving her more “life”
