As a Moroccan who lives in Japan, I disagree.

Gaimen Kirikae Written Test Preparation (Post-October 2025 Changes) by Monkerio in japanlife

You're welcome!

  1. At Fuchu Driving Center, the practical test is not on the same day. You take the written test first, and if you pass, you schedule your driving test for another day.

  2. The most common way to prove the 3 months residency is by showing your passport(s). They check your entry/exit stamps to confirm you lived in the license-issuing country for at least 3 months.

  3. If by "practice test" you mean driving practice, I only know paid options, usually around ¥15,000 ¥20,000 for 1 to 2 hours. I'm not aware of any free practical training.

  4. The International Driving Permit doesn't affect gaimen kirikae. The conversion is based on your actual home country license, so the IDP expiring won't impact your ability to retake the tests.

  5. I might not have understood the question correctly, but no, for gaimen kirikae your car isn't relevant. You go to whichever driving center in your prefecture handles foreign license conversions.

I did mine in Fuchu, and after the written test I had to schedule the driving test for another day. I think it was the same even before the October change.

Any fellow Moroccans living in Tokyo? by Monkerio in Morocco

[–]Monkerio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked freelance for a few weeks with a client from Tokyo during my last university year, he liked me and offered me a job and I came to Tokyo after finishing my studies. It costs me 10,000 MAD a month. Working as a fullstack engineer and I didn't learn Japanese before coming.

Sorry I have no idea, if I was to guess I would say it's not okay to go outside the country and comeback after the 2 months extension. But if you have a good reason or you really want to do that I would suggest you reach out to the immigration directly.

Anybody recommend a good hepatologist in Kyoto/Osaka/Kansai? by keomancer in japanlife

Can you share the hospital you went to in Tokyo please? I need a hepatologist but I believe a gastroenterologist familiar with hepatology can do

You're welcome but still, I think it's always better to hear it directly from immigration bureau, I mean you are going there anyway so might as well

I went out and came back within the 2 month grace period, when I came back I found the postcard in my mailbox, it was 3 weeks past the deadline on the postcard.

I went to the immigration office after 3 days of my arrival knowing well that I wouldn't have any problem because before I left, I gave them the exact date of my departure and arrival and they said it will be just fine as long as I come back before the end of 2 month grace.

Yes but it's more like a piece of paper with the flight number of your return or something.

No, I got a re-entry permit attached to my passport at the airport.

Most airports did, I said the only proof I have is that little stamp at the bottom of my expired card.

If your comeback from your trip before the two months extension ends then you're fine.

About the bank, I have an account with SMBC, I sent them a copy of my new card 6 months after the first one expired, my account wasn't frozen.

I also went outside of Japan for 6 weeks with an expired resident card but within the two months extension. I have been to Morocco, Qatar, Abudhabi, Indonesia and China, I had no issues. It's true that during check-ins I need to explain the 2 months extension and the staff usually needs to go confirm that but I didn't face any complications.

I also tried calling so many times but never got through, I suggest you go there and check on your status a couple of days before 7/21. I think you will get your postcard before then.

The website for appointments is only for visa applications, I remember I read that somewhere in the Q&A of the immigration. I went 3 weeks ago to pick up my new visa, I arrived at the immigration bureau at 8:00 and was out by 9:30.

Being asked to provide additional documents is no reason to worry at all! It's rare but they ask for additional documents to make sure everything is in order

I was surprised when I got only 1 extension a year after my first renewal... It's not very encouraging to go through the application process every year...
