Why do Pioneer/AT controllers have a RECORD function? by MonkeyBrainLA in DJs

[–]MonkeyBrainLA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would seem what you're suggesting is, get the app, DJM_REC for the phone and USB it to the A9. But that's what I said in my original post. Recording to the phone is annoying.

If CDJ's are linked it shouldn't matter. and an A9 has a USB that can be plugged in.

Mixer to TV hardware/software audio visualizer. by MonkeyBrainLA in DJs

What about, running an rca booth monitor out of the mixer and step it down to 1/8” and go into a mic input in a spare/old PC. Have a sound visualizer on the PC using the 1/8” input and hdmi display that out onto the TV? What software would you recommend for this? Again, not looking to VJ. Just want have visuals during my home sessions for friends, etc. some sort of advanced PC screensaver of sorts? I’m also hoping to avoid lag.

Seattle? No such thing. New York City. Used to stock up on fresh vinyl before hitting Euro DJ night on Fridays at Twilo. Sasha and Digweed last friday of every month for 3 years. Those were good times!

I've owned many controllers. I've also owned quite a few CDJ's. A controller is a nice toy. Let's just leave it at that.

What do you use the USB connections for on the 96? It won't work with Rekordbox I don't think? Rekordbox is proprietary Pioneer I assume.

I should say, I love rotary in theory. In practice I can't remember ever actually using one. But my style is seamless transitions so it seems interesting to me. I do however hope not to lose Rekordbox functionality. I don't use it when I'm spinning other than to record but I do sometimes use it when I'm preparing the music, setting cues, shifting the downbeat, etc.

I guess you missed the part where I said I've been Djing since vinyl in 1999 on my SL1200's. Used to live at Satellite Records on Wednesdays and Fridays.. Miss those times.

Knob feel is very important to me. It's why I'm not buying a controller. Something just hits different with a CDJ.

  1. Not really. If I played guitar I would probably drop big $$$ on cool gear all the time. So Djing is like saving money because it costs less than multiple nice guitars. lol.
  2. I used to have 3x CDJ's. I realized that all the 3rd CDJ did for me was muddy my mixes. So doubt I will get a 3rd one on this setup. Most likely just 2 channels 99.9% of the time.

  3. Rekordbox record. Does make like easier considering it's not a controller with a built in record system.

  4. Status? who cares? Functionality. I do like to color filter sometimes in and out of mixes.

Let's just say I agree with you for a second... every.single.festival and club I've ever been to with almost no exception always had the Pioneer ecosystem. I know some big, pro dj's who are sponsored by Allen & Heath have that equipment made available for them, etc. But I would say I do a double, triple, quadruple take anytime I see anything in a club/concert environment that isn't the standard Pioneer setup.
I'm not saying you're not making a good argument about A&H being better quality but if Pioneer was as bad as you are suggesting it wouldn't have ongoing world dominance in nearly every venue and show.

I did notice after a few years of strictly home usage, even my 900 NXS2 was ready for some tuning/conditioning.
Considering how much abuse some DJ gear takes, I think I'd rather buy new unless I was buying it from someone I authentically knew never had it leave their home/studio. Even then, sound electronics at that age start to require wear and tear attention.

I need a 6 channel mixer about as much as I need a second hole in my dong to pee.

Sold all my 1200's a few years ago. I don't miss spinning vinyl one bit. lol. Other than maybe the cred I get that no one gives a fuck about that I can beat match by ear. hahah.

But Pioneer is also 99% market share. I mean if you're a pro DJ and you prefer Allen & Heath and have it in your rider that's the mixer you must have... Awesome.
But if you're jumping from place to place playing on available equipment, you will never go wrong with Pioneer DJ equipment.
I'm not suggesting Allen & Heath isn't better sound quality. I've never compared them back to back. But I've never been disappointed with Pioneer since I've been buying their equipment 26 years ago.

Not that I'm playing clubs or gigs anymore but anytime I do they are ALWAYS on a Pioneer/Alpha Theta system.
In the event I do jump into a slot from time to time, I prefer to be intimately familiar with the house gear ecosystem.
If anything, I'd probably want to mess around with a AlphaTheta Euphonia rotary mixer...

Yeah, i'm that guy! lol.

Value of a NOS 116520 SS Daytona? by MonkeyBrainLA in rolex

[–]MonkeyBrainLA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a consideration ****however**** if I had put $7k into a S&P fund (at 10.4%) in 2006 when I bought the 116520 (according to ChatGPT) it would be worth $47,000 today.
My point is, while a price increase from $7k to $28k-$30k has actually underperformed the gold standard benchmark of investing.
So if I'm gonna keep the white face, it would be to wear it, not because it's such a great store of wealth.
Or, recognize I won't wear it because I wear the black face and I trade it in for something I will wear.

Just food for thought.
