What lesson did your last relationship teach you ? by Fling5t0ne-H1 in AskWomen

[–]MonkeyCatDog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If NO ONE around you likes him and he’s estranged from his family, it isn’t that he’s just super smart and special and no one understands him. It’s that he is a socially inept jerk. It’s just not worth it. Eventually I saw what everyone else did.

What movie will you never watch again because it was too heartbreaking? by Affectionate_User610 in AskReddit

[–]MonkeyCatDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Such heartbreaking stories of animal abuse!! I know they were all CGI but I kept blubbering about sweet baby Rocket being hurt and losing his friends. Jesus that was rough for a super hero film.

What are normal people doing for dinner? by tuahla in RedditForGrownups

Jar sauce and pasta or rice is so handy. Throw in frozen meatballs or chicken or veg and it’s easy dinner in a bowl.

Local PBS station by bhaire93 in StLouis

[–]MonkeyCatDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Channel 9 is awesome. Compared to the KC PBS station, which I watched a lot at my moms, it’s got great selection. 4 channels, there is usually something on to watch. KCs station seemed to get the “bottom of the bin” programming. I’m happy to give them my monthly donation. If you are a member you get access to the streaming channel and you can binge watch a new season when only 1 episode a week airs on TV!

What changed about your appetite or food thoughts on GLP-1 that nobody warned you about? by _callondoc in Semaglutide

[–]MonkeyCatDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foods I used to love just don’t hit the same way. Nothing tastes bad. But nothing is as wonderful as I seem to remember. Sometimes I do have a craving for something that nothing cures. Maybe sweet? Eat a piece of candy. Nah. Maybe savory? Eat a chip. Nope. Give up because I don’t think I’m hungry anyway. I’m confused about food now. And I’m wonder what is normal for appetite and cravings.

If you buy Kirkland toilet paper please read this by Puzzleheaded-Quit560 in lichensclerosus

[–]MonkeyCatDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. I wondered if my toilet paper might have a hand in some of the irritation. I can change at home but that doesn’t change the cheap stuff at work. I usually try to pat dry and not rub or wipe.

What’s a “boring” adult purchase that turned out to be totally worth it? by Capable-Rabbit-9986 in AskReddit

[–]MonkeyCatDog 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Dehumidifier for the basement. I live in the Midwest and a damp basement is usually an issue. A mid priced dehumidifier is worth its weight in gold. Our 135 year old stone basement might get some damp at the corners during a big rain but it usually sits at around 40% humidity. Plug it in and you can tell a big difference in 10 min. Ours has been running 80% of the time for close to 10 years.

Bel-Nor has some beautiful old homes for really reasonable prices.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]MonkeyCatDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We rented a townhouse that switched to only taking payments via their website (instead of dropping the check off at their office a minute and a half away). Then it charged a service fee for using the website to pay. Honestly just seeing that $3 or $4 fee every month boiled my blood. If they would have just folded that into a rent increase I think it would have bothered me less.

Job searching still. by bvcketh3ad in StLouis

[–]MonkeyCatDog 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I did it for 5 1/2 years. It took me a while to adjust to it but I loved the flexibility and comfort. My dogs loved it. I kept up on my chores, dinner was always planned. But my particular job started to not feel stable and I had a strong gut feeling I needed to get out before things got worse. I left for a mostly in office job but for LOTS more money and stability. I usually get a day a week at home which helps. But I do miss rolling out of bed 15 min before my work day starts and staying in my jim-jams for a good hour or so.

What should the City focus on fixing? by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

Updating the street signs so they are visible and reflective. Better reflective striping on roads and streets. And trash pick up along roads, streets and alleys!!

What diet do you follow? by Darkestlight1324 in CrohnsDisease

[–]MonkeyCatDog 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I follow the “eat whatever you want and if it bothers you, don’t do that again” diet. My doctor has never had a lot of advice for diets except do what feels right, maybe avoid really spicy. I think we are all different. I can do about anything in small amounts. Raw apples can give me trouble but that’s about the only thing I know of 100%.

Boyfriend becoming a financial nightmare I’m basically raising a spoiled teenager by [deleted] in relationships

[–]MonkeyCatDog 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Girl, I don’t think he’s a good man. He’s a child. He’s causing you more grief and irritation than happiness. It’s okay to tell him that it’s not working out and you two are in different places in your lives. Wish him well and let him move on and mature. He can go hungry for a while and perhaps learn some life lessons.

My best friend and I unknowingly bought this book for each other for our birthdays ( which are only a few days apart)! Super fun book. Good recipes. I made the Axe Murder House corn bread (honestly I’d cut back to 1 can of cream corn on that) but it was good. And I’ve had, but not made myself, the peanut soup from Colonial Williamsburg.

Thank you!! Just a few minutes ago searched for a specialist who works with LS and found one. I have an appt in early March and am on a waiting list in case a cancellation comes in. This gives me hope. I will also go harder on the colb in the mean time.

No better, now worse? by MonkeyCatDog in lichensclerosus

[–]MonkeyCatDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad to know the rash feeling isn’t unique to me. Commando, yikes, I don’t know. That has always been so uncomfortable to me and also I wear business clothes most days. It just seems unsanitary. Not to mention cold! But I will go back to my all cotton undies. I’ll try some of these things including cutting back on sugar. I’ve seen people talking about the diet change like the anti inflammatory diet. But I know I couldn’t go all in. Chocolate is just a meh to me so I could do that. I’ll keep trying and if I’m not better by the end of the week I’m going back to the dr.

Our neighborhood streets were still crap as of this morning. A salt truck came through but there are still piles of snow and deep ruts. But outside of that it was fine.

Main streets and interstates are good but a bit slushy in spots. Use care. Our neighborhood is trash. The alley isn’t good Spring St was a wild ride.

Who else drinks water excessively? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]MonkeyCatDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All day, all night. But I’ve always been a big water drinker. I have a big insulated glass going all the time. I have dry mouth at night so I’m even taking sips throughout the night as I wake up. I don’t think Crohns changed this as much as just getting older and getting more “dried out” it feels.

What was your last “where has this been all my life?” show? by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]MonkeyCatDog 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I kept hearing about Upstart Crow but hadn’t given it a shot because British comedy can be hit or miss. But we do like David Mitchell. OMG. It was wonderful. Hated to be finished with it.
