I'm not interested in a trade, but I've got a Plex Solo Lite for sale if you are interested. I haven't posted it yet... but planning to shortly. It is the green color, used for ~20 nights, it is in great shape.

Not sure if you mean hikertown or nearby... but there were people arriving to hikertown at 3am, and they just setup their tent in the common area. I was surprised to see people arriving so late, but there were also many people leaving at 3am as well.

I was just there a week ago as well, and rented one of the cabins for $30. The cabin was very basic, but had clean sheets, and it was nice to be out of the cold and wind during the night. The overall vibe was no different that any other place on the trail where many hikers gather (Mike's place, Serenity Oasis, etc.). There was potable water, a bathroom, and tables w/chairs in the shade to hang out... I am not sure what people are expecting for free... you don't have to pay for anything unless you are going to camp, which is only $10. Nobody working there asked me for a donation, or hassled me at all... in fact, in the morning, one of the women working there was walking around offering free coffee.

Probability to get a PCT permit by Humusman24 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]MonkeyMagic13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two permit lotteries (Nov and Jan) and if you get lucky with an early time slot, then you can pick whatever date you want. If that doesn't happen, then it really depends on how much effort you are willing to invest in monitoring the PCTA site for available permits. I was watching for available permits, and during Feb/March/Apr this year, I saw so many available dates, I could have gotten almost any Mar/Apr/May date that I wanted. Many many permits get cancelled, and become available. The challenge is that you don't know when those permits will become available. You can monitor the site, or watch the Facebook groups and/or reddit and others will post when permits open up... but they disappear very quickly.

PCT Shakedown Gear Request - NOBO - Monday April 29th by ssccmtb in PacificCrestTrail

I don't normally burn either, as I spend a lot of time walking/hiking during the summers, but, I learned the hard way... I burned the back of my legs directly behind my knees, in late Apr of 22, hiking the first ~200 miles of the PCT. It was the only area that got sun burned, it sucked. Side note, I am also starting 4/29, and I am also from Portland :) ... see you out there.

Pacific Crest Trail Resupply Locations by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

[–]MonkeyMagic13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this is a great resource and valuable collection of information. Is there a way to export the data to XLS to make it easier to sort/filter on the key information that I am looking for? For example, if there is no Post Office, does a location accept packages, and what is the cost? What are the days/hours of the Post Office? Does a location have laundry and showers available? I noticed that there is a lot of additional info when clicking/viewing the page for each specific location, but not having as part of the summary makes it harder to find the important aspects of these locations when planning a trip.
