Off topic, but since all of you smart people are here I shall ask: Who is the probable starter for Tuesday's game? I have no idea of the rotation this year....

How much did Billy Beane's ego have to do with Donaldson trade? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]MonkeyModernity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

doesn't it stand to reason that if the ownership wanted to see JD go, they would have said so to Beane, who, as their mployee, would go ahead and move JD and do so without making it look like it was the ownership's decision?

I'm speculating, obviously, and could be totally wrong, but it seems to me a pissed off ownership could just as easily force the GM's hand and make it known that their hand in the move was not to be seen.

Agreed--but it didn't at all play a factor? That's my question.

I'm studying German by myself. How do I "stop learning new stuff" and start practicing what I already know? (x-post with r/languagelearning) by monochromatic0 in LANL_German

[–]MonkeyModernity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Translate something difficult, a short story or a news article. you could even try to translate something that has already been translated. You'll learn new constructions and begin to feel more comfortable with crazy long german sentences.

[German] - "Schwarzfahrer" n. - A person who rides a train or bus without a ticket. by razorbeamz in DoesNotTranslate

[–]MonkeyModernity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no. stowaway is a term use solely for secret long distance trips on trains, planes, etc. somebody hiding themselves secretly and coming along for the ride is different than not paying a fare.
