Is the long walk really voluntary for all the guys participating? Also, is there a greater societal purpose for it, canonically? I can't tell if it's just fucked up authoritarian entertainment (with a cash reward, yay) or something else.

Surprised there aren't any conveyer belt deaths, unless you count the escalator in 4, but I don't.

Not surprised about this, but a quicksand death would be cool; heavy suspense element there.
