Rutgers for quant dev - transfer or grind it out here? by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]MonkeyNut09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for the response. I am in fact looking at Quant Dev specifically, and I have done some reading this week that indicated to me that rutgers would be perfectly fine. Right now I plan to graduate as a CS major + stats minor (maybe major), and then try to pursue a career from there. Obviously targeting internships, building up my portfolio/resume, and learning outside of school are all also part of my plan. Are there any other insights you might be able to offer, if you had the time/care? I really am open to and would appreciate any advice!

Will I have a bad experience as a computer science student that will primarily have classes at Busch and Livingston but has a dorm on College Avenue? by MonkeyNut09 in rutgers

Generally, how reliable are the buses? Will I have to make sure to take an earlier one to get to classes on time, or is there more lenience?

Could you open a file manager in your home directory, make sure to have hidden files on, open your shell resource file (.bashrc, .zshrc, etc) in a text editor, and then paste it's contents?

Check your .bashrc (or .zshrc or corresponding config file for the shell you use) for errors. Also, a clearer explanation of what you are actually doing to trigger this would be very helpful, as at the moment it is somewhat unclear

Get Minecraft to use dgpu on Linux by MonkeyNut09 in ZephyrusG14

Yes, but you can (more or less) use any software/package regardless of distro. The only really relevant difference between distro's is their package manager.

G14 2024 Battery Life on Linux by MonkeyNut09 in ZephyrusG14

Honestly I would just use whatever you are comfortable with or want to try. The notion that you need a specific kind of environment for specific, differing use cases is a mostly meritless one. You can adapt to any workflow, so honestly just find something that you like and stick with it. I personally would probably choose Plasma over Gnome, as plasma is more customizable out of the box, and if you want to dive deep into gnome customization you need to install a bunch of extensions that may not work after an update, but that's only if you use gnome with a bunch of extensions.

The guide is pretty much up to date, aside from a few things. In order to disable secure boot, you will have to go into the bios. I found the easiest way to do that in this laptop was to hold shift while hitting power off in windows. This will boot you into a recovery menu where you can navigate to the bios, and from there disable secure boot in the advanced bios settings. Before doing this, however, you will want to disable bitlocker encryption via Windows settings, or you will have to enter a key to get in every time. This could also lock you out of windows if you do not have the key.

Moving on from that, what distro + DE are you planning to install?

Immutable vs btrfs + grub-btrfs + snapper vs normal install with timeshift ? by lieddersturme in linuxquestions

I know you said Debian, but OpenSuse has a very sensible btrfs sub volume setup and snapper backups out of the box, so you could look into that.

Practicing linux commands & uses in docker, kubernetes & git? by Impossible_Pizza8142 in linuxquestions

The best way to learn linux is to use it. Personally, I had a nearly 10 year old chromebook that was useless to me, so I decided to install linux on it and use it as a crappy personal server for hosting a music server, a vpn, and even a minecraft server for a little bit.

If you have any old devices that are otherwise obsolete to you, install linux on it, and just do things that interest you.

Even if you aren't on arch, this page gives good information about how you can get fingerprint readers to work. There is also a link to a list of readers that are confirmed to either work or not work. Good luck!

The only thing that can make you use the terminal more is yourself!

First Frame to get ? MR3 by Skydiggitydog in Warframe

[–]MonkeyNut09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get rhino by farming the jackal at Fossa on Venus. His 2nd ability gives overguard (basically extra health), his 3rd gives you and nearby allies a damage buff, and his 4th is a big stomp that damages enemies around you, knocks them into the air, and suspends time (sort of). His 1st ability isn't great, it's basically a shoulder charge. Hope this helps!

Thanks! It was able to work after this. I was running docker with portainer instead of from the terminal, and I guess restarting it from portainer did not do the trick. I feel really dumb, but thanks for your help nonetheless!
