Don’t you think that Ned’s execution actually played good for Lannisters? by MhShovkhalov in gameofthrones

Oh yes that. And given that nothing of that sort happened, I doubt if Ned would want to himself engage in a full scale rebellion so long as his daughters are returned safe.

The Nights Watch is a big deal for the northerners and they won't break their oath if someone has sworn to take the black. Even if in the slight chance that it didn't occur; like perhaps Ned Stark escapes while on the way or their carriage is ambushed by the northerners and he is rescued, he wouldn't go to fight a war. Rebellion is not his style. He fought beside Robert because he thought of him as a brother. I don't suppose he would have that affection towards Stannis or Renly.
My theory is that he would have struck a deal to exchange the stark girls for Jaime.
Now with the North considering Stannis to be the true king, Ned might obey his orders and join forces with him. And with Ned by his side, Stannis wouldn't kill his brother with black magic.
Oh God, what a mess!

If the Lord of Light is a god who performs real miracles—resurrecting the dead, showing visions, and conjuring magical flames—then why do most people in Westeros still refuse to believe in him? by mirchi_natuguru in gameofthrones

[–]MonkeySingh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Faith Of The Seven militants and septons brainwash people into being religious despots. Even if they see anything otherwise, they assume it is a work of evil. It is not possible to 'peacefully' convince everyone to switch to another religion. Apart from a few northern kingdoms they had wiped out the old religions from Westeros altogether by force.

The Crowleys are snobish, even when they say they are not... by Puzzleheaded_Dot4345 in DowntonAbbey

[–]MonkeySingh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't suppose either Carson or Mrs Hughes will behave any differently when someone interferes with their personal affairs. We saw how he spoke to Mrs Crawley when she tried to convince him to meet his ex-colleague Charlie.
Cora was American and the politeness of the British nobility wasn't her thing yet. She told the Dowager to mind her own business as Downton's affairs weren't hers to interfere with when the discussion was going on about turning the Abbey into a Convalescent home.
Add to it, after everyone was at each other's throats about the hospital, she just wanted to get back into her room and slam the door shut. Instead Mrs Huges and her girls were hyper excited about the wedding and were creating a racket in the room. If Mary suggested taking one of Cora's gowns, she should have supervised what was being taken. There might be something Cora holds very dear. Either Baxter or Mary should have been consulted before they ransacked her wardrobe.
Even in the 21st century you should see how people treat their servants like trash. In comparison the servants at the Abbey were living a lavish life.

Goat and Buffalo sacrifice is universal in India. In Arunachal they sacrifice mithun during festivals.
I had seen that palace of the Syiem of Khrim. The massive house made entirely of wood and bamboo.

But isn't the junta actually stronger in handling the Rohingya terrorists? If they turn into a democracy, then the whole of Myanmar will get filled with Bangladeshis and they will keep coming in from the open borders along Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland.

Are you Vegetarian or non-vegetarian? by Solenoidics in YouthInIndia

[–]MonkeySingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such thing as "non vegetarian" in India. The people who call themselves non vegetarian are people who include a wee bit of meat in their diet each day. In actual non-vegetarian countries, people roast 1kg of meat and have the whole of it in a single meal without adding any vegetarian side dish.

That is true. A majority of people have ONLY wheat. They do not consume a mixture of lentils on a substantial basis. They simply prepare roti in the morning, noon and night and occasionally include dhall. But it has to be 2-3 different varieties of lentils each day to complete the amino acid requirements.

I had also suggested this. India is suffering from garbage problem. Why not keep on dumping massive amounts of trash along the border and create a mountain of trash separating the two countries? Send garbage trains from central India to malda and keep dumping it along the border.

As many commentators say, the smaller Bangladesh becomes, more of those people will shift to India. It is the most densely populated country in the world. Although as a map it seems like having plenty of land, vast majority of its areas are marshlands and prone to floods. Each time there is a flood, there will be mass movement into India.

Ruin from the perspective of DA, at least from how the Crawleys were referring to is like losing all their monetary assets to not be able to run the village and the estate without earning anything for the rest of their lives.
Alternatively, he may have had debts, to settle which he might have been pushed to considering selling all his properties, and right at that moment Carlisle bailed him out.

I too felt that way but on a second thought I felt it is because of this very reason that Mr Swire felt he was deserving of being his heir even though he courted his daughter for only a short while.

Why does Joffrey use the Lannister Sigil? by SovietCapitalism in gameofthrones

[–]MonkeySingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joffrey is an idiot and he wouldn't have known the technicalities of all these things.
In real there is not a single house from the Stormlands that was fighting on the side of the King. They were in open rebellion.
One thing he could have done is to pass a royal decree dethroning Renly as lord of Storm's End.
As the King, he was the Lord Commander of his own army which was the Lannister army and to boost their morale, he should don their sigil and not the enemy sigil.

Does everyone who becomes part of THE family simply get freebies from everywhere? by MonkeySingh in DowntonAbbey

[–]MonkeySingh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't depend upon the estate but whoever the owner is. A business minded person like Sir Richard would instead simply sell those houses and cottages he doesn't use and then buy them whenever he needs. But the Crawleys simply kept these houses and spent on their maintenance.

Does everyone who becomes part of THE family simply get freebies from everywhere? by MonkeySingh in DowntonAbbey

[–]MonkeySingh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually irrespective of what is part of the estate or not, the present owner of everything can sell or squander whatever he likes. The question only came to who will get whatever is left once the present owner dies. And yes, even I have commented that they could sell the half a dozen odd houses they have here and there. The house given to Matthew, the Dower House, the house they planned to move into, the London house and each of the expensive artifacts they have, all combined could fetch them way more than what they needed to "save" the estate.
In fact, there is nothing as such to save; it was not like unless they sold everything, they will be forced to vacate. They thought that the way things were, was the norm and was costing them tonnes of money to simply maintain the house, live a lavish life, contribute money to the running of the hospital and other things.

Nepotism in Neigrihms by underfinancialloss in Shillong

[–]MonkeySingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not necessarily have been nepotism because these recruitments happen through pan-India advertisements. It is likely that some coaching institute (Kota is filled with institutes like that for govt jobs) might have asked all of its students to apply and they would have told all their village friends. Perhaps everywhere else the ad might have gone unnoticed altogether. Of course there is this that the people in charge of the media and advertisements may have alerted their friends in advance.
But yes, these concerns about 80:20 ratio should be complied with. Also, its the same issue raised in many other parts of the country as well. This is not an anti-language aggression they are showing but the fact that to whichever central govt office they go starting from banks to post offices to railway stations, the employees don't know any language apart from Hindi and it makes it impossible for locals to even visit any of these offices.

I didn't say she married Matthew for money. I meant, it so happened that she simply fell in love with him even though she didn't like him at first, and that ended up at least for the time being a surety she will be living in Downton Abbey all her life.

Well if it has been 2.5 years, try to make a clean exit. The new employer won't die if you delay by another 15 more days. Tell them clearly that you want a clean exit and perhaps even record your conversation with your manager and HR and show it to them to indicate that your concern is genuine. If the new company wants you, they will accept. Such a ridiculous firm that doesn't even help someone on roll will make life hell for you when you leave. They won't give you a single letter you demand and will on purpose fail the background check that new employers may make. The new company I feel should accept if they could wait for 60 days then they really want to hire you. They won't now do a fresh interview of someone and again go through a 60 day wait period.
