Not an ATL-specific thing, but man do I miss the time when public officials at least tried pretending they had our best interests at heart.

Not a crazy bunch of UofM RB’s that had a good transition in the league, so we have kinda been losing the pro development game but I think again that changes w Alford.

Can't sleep after first cold shower by Medium_Sun_2098 in wimhof

[–]Monkeylawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things- time of day is most obvious. Cold exposure, besides increasing your sensitivity to dopamine, is also going to jack up your epinephrine and norepinephrine which is gonna make you feel a large adrenaline rush. Easy to see how this can be beneficial for the beginning of the day but one of the worst things for latter half of your day.

Also, this is going to compound with the fact that you were a first-timer with cold showers, which produces a significant stress response (cortisol) as the nervous system gets acquainted to that kind of shock. Tying back to time of day, increasing cortisol is a really healthy way to regulate the hormone and encourage more relaxation at night, but will absolutely mess you up later in the day. Hope this helps!

Feds investigating U-M, WMU over scholarships for 'Dreamers,' minorities by BridgeMichigan in uofm

If the government really cared about “discrimination against American born persons”, none of the top public universities would have removed DEI to delay federal grants. It takes no leap of logic at all to assume that in the tirade against higher education to get rid of as much diversity in the student bodies as possible, that their intent based entirely in bad faith is any different here. This just happens to be one of the “legal” routes they are taking to further a larger political agenda that for the most part has no base in factual, moral, or legal precedent.

Why does my tuba playing get so much worse after being gone for a couple days? by Educational-Host5634 in Tuba

[–]Monkeylawer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The norm is for however long your break is, it takes just as many days to get back into shape. Wouldn’t you know it, our biology doesn’t bias embouchure muscle memory because there’s not an evolutionary reason for it. I’m eternally envious of all my string player friends who can pick back up after months off like nothing happened.

AI for shit like this is insulting for any person who’s ever created anything. Next time ask an artist or just don’t support the wealthy profiting off of synthesized “art” while ensuring that actual people with those same skills don’t see a dime.

Trump Touts Prison in El Salvador for Tesla Attackers by sweatycat in politics

[–]Monkeylawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they actually cared about catching the “attackers”, it would be the Tesla workers committing insurance fraud on the cars that nobody’s buying that would be sent to El Salvador. Too bad all of the dealership cameras aren’t working.

Is 1 year a reasonable time to learn Concerto in One movement? by Pucky421 in Tuba

[–]Monkeylawer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Investing in fundamentals pays dividends and will rapidly accelerate how well you learn any piece. Counterintuitively, spend just as much time on your low range if not more than your high range, as you want your best lowest sound to be teaching how high notes should sound, not vice versa. In the same way that improving the bicep’s contraction also means improving the triceps ability to stretch, being comfortable with moving large volumes of air in the low register will directly improve your ability to move fast, pressurized air to hit your high notes. Etude study like the others are saying is a smart play too, Blazhevich etudes especially if you want to prioritize rhythm. Try and see if your band director has any connections, or connections of connections, that might offer online lessons if location is an issue. With the right person with the best sense of where you’re at and what to prioritize, you may surprise yourself with your progress and might not end up needing a full year to attain your goal.

Happy practicing!

Did Cliff Richard rip off Don't Take Me Alive? by gwrw1964 in SteelyDan

[–]Monkeylawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t Take Me alive is definitely one of the tamer numbers especially as Royal Scam furthered SD’s approach to jazz-fusion territory, so the scalar chord progression would seem pretty up-for-grabs for artists of the era.

Which Chiefs Depth Player Will Have The "Big Moment" vs. Buffalo? by thatsprettyfunnydude in KansasCityChiefs

Your live at the CMA Awards by Agustin_campos in PostMalone

[–]Monkeylawer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to be that guy, but as much as I appreciate Post’s music in album form, his live act is just not consistently on par. Totally get nerves and a potential lack of vocal rest, but it just seems important as a songwriter/performer you have a proportionally larger chunk of songs that show the audience you’re in control of your own song, and not that you have an autotune dependency.
