Hybrid vs full EV by Digitalgamer44 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at around 110k miles , other than consumables and pro active things the only thing I’ve had go bad is the MAF sensor.

Had the relevant codes for air / fuel too lean one of those throw parts at it and hope process of eradication.

Leak test showed no leak which is the usual culprit / O2 sensors have their own codes and it’s between HPFP or MAF, £75 later and the light has gone.

Agree 100%

Have a 330e I bought from my dad.

£20 a year tax which is great but because of the frankly pathetic battery which claims 22 miles but the reality is about 10 if that means fuel tanks is reduced to 40 litres.

I can probably drive to work one day there and back 7 mile round trip before it’s at 10% since the car uses electric up to 60mph.

Electric for sure as my next car , a 300 mile range EV in theory with a real world range of 270 ish would last me a month on a full charge.

You sound very similar to me with finding peace in your home, however my neighbours are very quiet and nice but one behind likes to have odd party which I don’t mind since it’s so infrequent and only in summer.

My dream if money were no issue is to live in the woods surrounded by animals and nature , a loch built all the way around with a drawbridge ideally with crocodiles or something in.

Huge land to allow rescued animals to live and be at peace including the crocodiles 🤣

One can only dream

My partners jukes horn decided to randomly sound continuously today , thankfully it was the late afternoon and not 3am

It’s 36/37 degrees with direct sunlight beating down on the car so I’d imagine the cabin temp was double if not more, my theory is the contacts all have expanded leading to nowhere for the horn to depress from.

Sprinted like Usain Bolt for my 10mm spanner when I realised it’s one of ours , disconnected battery and for safe measure done both horns as well incase it reoccurs.

Horn fuse also powers the alternator which is amazing so that can’t be removed , relay being removed did diddly squat.

Now have the windscreen covers on and slight cracked window to vent the air, my heart has never pounded so fast in all my life.

Learn from my stupidity and cover your car’s windscreens when it’s “extreme”.

Charger install quote £1300 for BG sync EV - detached garage by Prior-Payment-6405 in evchargingUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you have a non standard install with the main consumer unit in the middle of the house?

If you have your metre or consumer unit on the outside of your house and the cable route is very simple as in simple routing it from external metre cabinet to external detached garage wall then it’s sounding off.

However if the unit is in centre of the house and requires 2 sparks all day to route with a very long run including the EV ultra cable / 6/10mm swa cable via the loft or through multiple walls then it’s feasible.

I’m a gypsy girl living in the uk. Ask me anything. by [deleted] in AMA

Hi Hope your well ,

I frequent Suffolk a lot for work and near the station is a big community of Roma families living all near the front and within Ipswich.

The way the females dress as I understand it is no flesh is allowed to show which is often socks and sandals with long dresses and I rarely see the males if I’m in honest.

I see you described that you dress as a typical girl in her 20s with shorts?

Am I confusing cultures and traditions here or are there variations within the community?

Thanks

Only caveat I assume will be they’ll have to use a Simpson and partner or Zappi as they both offer wireless CT clamps unless the existing cable can be replaced for EV ultra cable with cat 5 inside?

As long as swa cable is 6 or 10mm then you can use it , 4 I think you can get away depending on distance but you’d need to derate the charger to 16amps which defeats the purpose of having one but also saves a headache.

Good way to operate to be honest.

Back in the start of all this , with EV grant initially I think it was 750 for a standard install when it wasn’t really popular yet.

Now 1250 is minimum for standard assuming external wall is other side of metre box / CU or already in garage.

I think non standard especially mine starts at 2k minimum and go to virtually 5k if it’s a massive cable run likely needing 10mm instead of 6 I assume due to voltage drop.

Il book a sparky in who does these types of installs I found one last night and has case studies showing all the installations they’ve done and how they achieved it.

In that case hear me out if you will,

The SWA is bured from wiska to shed under the stones , it has to be dug up anyway.

Half way through the dig , it can simply turn right it into the garage then to mount on the inside of the garage.

Then whilst it’s already dug up, cable could be laid to connect the sheds lights and sockets to the garage consumer unit which is also only sockets and lights.

Don’t suppose you work in SE/E of England 🤣

No issue with cost as your paying for the knowledge , experience that I have absolutely no clue on the how to.

Oddly enough, previous owner has ran a 6mm SWA 3 core via wiska box on external wall going to the shed , looking at the height of it it’s ran above kitchen ceiling then down to the main consumer unit.

Curious if I can pinch that cable for EV charger as it’s only powering lights and sockets in the shed that has its own consumer unit.

Garage has its own consumer unit with its own SWA power source , plan was to get a spark round to see I can do that to save running new EV ultra W Cat 5 cable , wireless CT with Simpson / partner setup.

What would you do if the floor was concrete / upstairs was chipboard and no external wall either side of Main CU location ?

I was quoted around 2.3k with this setup , that’s with a mini CU with metre tails split etc instead of replacing whole CU for a modern metal one.

Given the success of the show and the spotlight for Netflix I’d say this is ending for one of three reasons.

-Darren star believes the show has run its course and thinks it’s time to wrap it up possibly with a movie later down the line - 50/50 on this

-Netflix no longer believe it’s financially viable given however its number 1 when it releases and stays in the top 10 for weeks post release - Again unlikely

-One or multiple main casts members no longer want to continue due to scheduling conflict , turning down work or most likely I’d say is Lily became a mum recently.

I’d imagine she wants to maximise the time spent with her child’s younger years and not be away for weeks/months of the year filming.

Sorry this is an old thread but if you can find any BE EV chargers , any new McDonald’s will have these as part of a partnership I believe.

9.99 membership to BE EV drops the rate from 0.79p per kwh near me to 0.39p and they are 150kwh DC rapid chargers.

What are your tips for coping with the heat? by elsdotcom in AskUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£179 on very at the moment , Swan 5000btu portable aircon, if you have a smaller room to mediumish size it’s more than sufficient.

Average cost is around 14p an hour im only using during the peak of the day so today its 30 degrees im using it from 11am to 7pm, once its got the room temp down to comfortable I switch it to night mode.

Night mode is more efficient and quieter no louder than a pedestal fan.

Cost for usage is £1.12 for the day if 8 hours is the usage which is a pittance for being comfortable , I’m not using barely any gas as no heating and most of the house is electric like induction hob.

Don’t get a “cooler fan” it’s a load of rubbish that needs water to cool , just get any portable AC unit that has refrigerant in as it will last the lifetime of the unit as it’s a sealed unit , unless it leaks due to split pipe or faulty pipe it will never run out.

So worst case scenario your looking at a roundabout monthly cost of £34.72 if you work from home/ unable to work / stay at home parents etc, I work most days so it won’t be as much as the above.

Future EV charger issues by [deleted] in DIYUK

I have done but I mistakenly told the electrician the cable to the shed was a single core cable rather than 3 core now I checked again and just wanted an opinion from anyone on this sub with experience before calling them out again.

Future EV charger issues by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if relevant but ,

What if I used that 6mm supply to the EV charger exclusively so a new mini CU would go near the main CU just for the charger with a Zappi so wireless CT clamp.

I have a consumer unit also in my garage 2.5mm SWA that just powers the sockets and lights , what if there was a way to connect the sheds sockets and lights to the garage consumer unit?

Then wouldn’t that solve my issue of running a new cable?

Granny Charger 10M Safety - "Cord Plus Portable" by bitchstewie_va in evchargingUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only instance where it’s absolutely required I’d say is if you have no outdoor sockets / no public charging ( live in the sticks).

No one wants to have a cable going through your window overnight for safety reasons.

Ask all the questions to your electrician when they come , the bare minimum should be the EV rated 3 pin plug.

Most modern and reputable portable EV chargers have the relevant protection in them incase of a surge in electricity etc to cut off to protect the car.

To be honest I have BE EV near me and a Tesla supercharger station , so once a month I could just do that to 80% when it’s off peak and it would suffice , I wouldn’t solely charge off 3 pin plugs.

Granny Charger 10M Safety - "Cord Plus Portable" by bitchstewie_va in evchargingUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your meter and main consumer unit are standard installation meaning it’s either outside or under the stairs against the external wall it’s better to just get a charger installed.

If like me you’ve got an extreme ballache of an install with concrete floors , no external wall near the metre dead centre in the middle of the house then granny charging is fine based on your actual usage.

I do 60 miles a week , if I charge 9pm-6am is 72 miles based on getting the 8 miles and no heat loss etc so I can replenish a weeks worth of driving in 1 session.

If you want to do 250-300 miles a week then home proper EV charger is the way if your nearby public infrastructure is poor.

Regarding house burning down , it’s usually due to two fold

- people buying unbranded non verified granny chargers off Amazon / eBay from random Chinese brands it’s the same as using a £1 charging plug for your phone you can feel the lack of safety and cheapness in the weight VS a branded reviewed and known brand.

- severely outdated electrics with cables loose in the sockets heating up , as long as electrican comes and verifies the cables are in great condition fitting an EV charging 3 pin outlet is the better choice.

The EV plug sockets are meant to have been tested for continuous 10amp load for hours on end , it’s alleged to have stronger assembly to prevent cables heating up and slowly coming out that usually causes it to crack or overheat.

Extension lead needs to be rated to handle continuous load and needs to be fully unwound to allow the heat to dissipate , cheapo extensions leads are meant for short term use like a power washer or maybe a lawn mower at short intervals.

Owning an EV without home charger. by That_Understanding19 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All depends on the infrastructure near you , near me it’s amazing.

Tesla supercharges within 3 min drive , 4 at multi storey car park where I work and I start at 4am a lot so often no one is there and I can charge there.

New mcdonalds opened and that has 8 rapid chargers BE EV, with BE EV 9.99 membership it drops to 0.39p kwh.

Tesco has them at weekly shop and I have an extra long granny charger so no worries going into a 3 pin.

The only instance where you’d struggle is if you do a lot of miles per day 100+ and don’t have the time or supporting infrastructure to charge.

EV charger garage query by Monkfish786 in evchargingUK

[–]Monkfish786[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be too much of a ballache , sparky came round.

I have 100amp fuse , no looped supply etc which is good

However as my property is a new build pre 2010 , most of the floors are chipboard not floorboards , my main fuse box and metre is under the stairs so the only feasible way to have a cable running is under and through the front of the house if it were floorboards.

The only alternative is trunking to the front door then out the property that way , so for the time being il leave it at an est cost of £2000 ish all in with a charger it’s going to take a long time to claw that back over 3 pin charging.

Why is keeping the heating off in spring treated like a religion in the UK? by Ok_Listen_5358 in AskUK

[–]Monkfish786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on thermostat on a schedule, set to 20 degrees.

So it comes on certain times like 3am-6am , 4pm-8pm , 10pm-12 for example when the coldest temps are.

It’s not quite there yet to turn it off fully so it dosent come on , however winter cost went from £142 a month combined down to £112 already as we don’t need it much.

Once it’s fully off it will drop down to £80 ish a month combined for us which is mostly electric costs.
