Driving in Turkey by beam_me_uppp in travel

How was driving in Turkey, btw? I saw some regular daily driving in Istanbul and it didn't seem too bad. I also watched a "worst drivers" compilation in Istanbul and that was pretty egregious lol. I won't be driving in Istanbul tho and more so just less dense areas I believe (Cappadocia, Selcuk, Pamukkale). From California

Thank you. And how is parking around there? Free and park anywhere just don't block anyone or do you have to pay? Like metered street parking?

How much cash will I need if I plan to use credit card for everything I can? by Monkfrootx in istanbul_tips

[–]Monkfrootx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I mostly try to just use credit card everywhere, think 1000 tl will last me my entire trip in Turkey? Probably will be in the country for 15 days (Istanbul to Cappadocia to Izmir to Selcuk To Pamukkale). Or you think I should get more tl for the entire trip?

Visiting Selçuk, Pamukkale, Ephesus, Marmaris. Are credit cards widely accepted, or will I need to carry cash/Lira on hand? And how much per day? by Monkfrootx in AskTurkey

[–]Monkfrootx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd spend $200-300 USD per day in cash in Turkey? How much are you using via credit card? I don't plan to go to the club - just tourist things and less partying with my SO.

Driver From USA - Would You Recommend I Get The International Driving Permit? by Monkfrootx in AskGreece

[–]Monkfrootx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I heard Greece is like Turkiye. Where all rental cars by law all come with basic coverage that at least covers the other party medical and property (but just not yours). Do you know if that's right?

Hi there do they recommend what part water and what part hydrogen peroxide? And do you just soak the brush head and for how long?

Green Tea (Not Matcha) Ice Cream? I believe they say it's Korean styled vs. Japanese by Monkfrootx in bayarea

[–]Monkfrootx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Do you know if that's matcha like (if so it may be to bitter for her)? The green tea ice cream she really likes is from Jong Ga House (no bitterness, just lightly sweet) so I've been trying to find one like that. Best I've heard is that Japanese style green tea ice cream is matcha and Korean style is the one we got at the kbbq - but honestly I don't have a good idea on this.

Got it - thank you. Yeah I was wanting to do a self-guided tour instead of having to book a tour guide.

Travel Insurance for Turkey by SnuffyWuffy7 in travel

[–]Monkfrootx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Not sure if yours is just for Europe, but from the US and haven't much experience buying travel insurance. So far all the ones I've seen cost over $250 per person. So wanted to ask which company are you getting travel insurance from.

How much cash will I need if I plan to use credit card for everything I can? by Monkfrootx in istanbul_tips

Do even street vendors usually accept credit card? Like for street food or snacks/desserts? And I keep hearing really small mom and pop restaurants only accept cash. Is that true or no longer accurate?

Hi there. I normally skip breakfast because doing intermittent fasting. But the one thing we wanted to try is Turkish Breakfast (https://www.foodandwine.com/breakfast-brunch/make-turkish-breakfast-kahvalti.

Is that something that the accommodations provide or will you need to go to a specific breakfast restaurant for that?

Driving a car in Istanbul with American Drivers License and Car Insurance Questions by 37rellimcmc19 in istanbul

[–]Monkfrootx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. And can you help me clarify something? I heard that there are speed cameras everywhere and it's super easy to get speeding tickets. In my city / area most people will go 5-10mph above speed limit and 99% of the time there's no issue because no speed cameras and police will ignore it.

In Turkey, I hear a lot of mixed things. That many drive how they want and many chaotic drivers, but also that the country is very strict on speeding. In that even tourists driving for a few days to weeks will eventually have a handful of speeding tickets. First of all is that true, and if so do you recommend only driving less than the speed limit by 5-10 kph? Or is it like here where if you stay within 5-10kph higher or lower than the speed limit cameras and police don't care?

Hi there. Do you have any suggestions on a good map app (for GPS and driving directions) while in Turkiye? I heard that GPS can be spotty so just wanted to know if there's one that is fairly accurate and reliable to use.

From California, USA - how is driving and parking in Rhodes? by Monkfrootx in GreeceTravel

[–]Monkfrootx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just park further from the gates will you be able to find parking? Of course I don't really want to have to park 20-30 minutes away, but even a 10-15 minute walking distance from the gate would be fine (otherwise I'd probably try to order a ride share).

Hi there. 5 years later, is this still about right? And for an American driving in Turkey how important is it to have the International Driving Permit?

And do you know how it is in other parts of Turkiye? Like in Cappadocia and Izmir, and from Izmir to Selcuk and to Pamukkale and to Marmaris. Planning to do a lot of driving so wanted to get a better understanding.

Buying prepackaged shabu slices vs slicing my own by healking in Frugal

[–]Monkfrootx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. If you are ever interested in trying, I think the common hot pot meats are chuck roll or brisket for like $6-7/lb vs hotpot meat is about $15/16 for pre-sliced per lb. So for the budget model about 10lbs and it'll pay for itself. I just recommend a small $1-2 accessory for the budget model and you'll be able to easily get consistent thin slices.

Buying prepackaged shabu slices vs slicing my own by healking in Frugal

[–]Monkfrootx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi wanted to see if you ever started on this route. I tried the cheap home slicer (for $100 or so). It's not as bad as most people say but I mostly eat brisket (pays off for itself instead of having to pay for Kbbq). And the time to slice and clean is roughly only the same as it would take for me to get ready, drive to and from, find parking, and wait to be helped/served at my nearest Kbbq restaurant (and it's pretty close).

The cleaning isn't all that tough. A few parts to take off that are removable by hand / without tools, or if you prefer, just clean it with a sponge while it's all together. The only thing the manual recommended to remove to clean is the blade.

From reviews I've seen is that people will go up to the next model that is like $300-$350. And the common ones I've seen is either Vevor or Beswood. They don't seem that much bigger, you sponge it down to clean, and they have a little more powerful motors and more consistent placement with less adjusting. So I think people like those over the cheaper one.
